Yellow House reopened on May 13, 2016 for the season. After weeks of preparation we were thrilled to finally have everything polished and in its place. It is amazing how large this house becomes when you are spring-cleaning it room by room! The early spring is an exhilarating time in Bar Harbor as the streets magically come to life as everyone readies their business for the upcoming season.
After a fairly mild winter our spring weather was an interesting mix of surprisingly cool nights with sunny days and we even saw snow flurries! It is a reminder that the weather in Maine does not pay attention to the date on the calendar. Gardeners are advised to wait for the first full moon before planting due to the possibility of frost and that was May 20, 2016.
Memorial weekend was a grand beginning for the fun-filled months ahead. We enjoyed meetings guests from around the country and from Quebec and Germany. Everyone stayed busy hiking the trials, biking on the carriage roads, enjoying popovers at Jordan Pond, and of course – eating lobster! Repeatedly our guests tell us that they did not allow enough time to fit in all their activities so they plan on returning!
Happy 100th Birthday Acadia! That’s right this year we are celebrating the Centennial year for Acadia National Park. Acadia is a gift to all of us who have come to know the carriage roads, the mountain peaks, the majestic shores and the towns that surround the park. Come to Bar Harbor and join in the celebration and experience the glory of this special place. Check out their website for a complete list of the activities www.acadiacentennial2016.org
Centennial celebrations, rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch, wine at sunset…that’s Yellow House.
We look forward to welcoming you,
