In an interview
, the artist explained "my work deals with the image as an element of identity. I try to catch the image which defines the identity of groups or social sectors in Havana or abroad, through elements which define it best from an iconographic point of view. [...] The series Del ser o del parecer
is the third stage of a process which led me to encompass several approximations on a particular context of the current Cuban reality."
Presented in the USA, in Aix-en-Provence in France during the festival Phot'Aix, in the Photoquai Biennial in Paris, France ; or in the Phnom Penh Photo Festival in Cambodia, this series takes a deep look at the residential areas built in the 1940 and 50s, situated in the districts of Miramar, Siboney or the Nuevo Vedado, that were built for the upper middle class.
