Each year, Queensland Small Business Week continues to grow, with more events in more locations, delivering a range of opportunities for small business owners to network, connect, and learn new skills and tools that will help them succeed now and in the future.

Get ready for GovHack 2018!

Start getting your team together for GovHack 2018, an open data hackathon held across Australia.  The international competition is returning in 2018 on the weekend of 7-9 September.

Teams compete for awards using Government open data to provide solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.

The 2017 event saw 3000 participants, 430 projects and 36 locations across Australia and New Zealand.


National Body announced to oversee sharing of government data

The Turnbull Government has announced a new national body to oversee access to Government-held data as part of a suite of reforms recommended by the Productivity Commission.

The intended outcome will be simpler and more efficient data sharing across government agencies whilst protecting the privacy of individuals.


Small Business Innovation Research Medical Challenge closes soon

The next challenge in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants program is closing soon.  The SBIR program supports innovators to develop and test new, commercially viable solutions to complex Queensland Government challenges.

Open for applications until 29th May, the next challenge in the program is for optimising medication use in the Emergency Department.


Mobile Black Spot program reaches a new milestone

The Mobile Black Spot Program has reached a new milestone, with Telstra switching on its 400th mobile base station under the program.

Minister for Regional Communications, Senator Bridget McKenzie, attended the launch event for the new base station at Upper Chittering in Western Australia.

The switch on is the latest of the 867 base stations that will be delivered under all three rounds of the program, providing regional and rural Australians with access to next-generation mobile communications.


New one-stop shop for financial complaints

The Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, has announced a new one-stop shop for financial complaints.

Australian Financial Complaints Limited has been authorised to operate the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA),the new financial dispute resolution scheme.

The Minister said that “Consumers and small businesses across Australia will benefit....as AFCA will have expertise to deal with all disputes across the entire financial services industry, including superannuation and small business lending disputes.”
