Camp Kirby - It's a Wrap!

I can’t believe that another summer at Camp Kirby has come to a close. The final Camp Fire has been extinguished, the teepees taken down and stored away, and the main lodge is empty and quiet. I can’t begin to tell you how many amazing things were accomplished at Camp this summer. Our programs have continued to grow, and this season we were able to serve the most campers that we have in over 10 years. An incredible 559 campers attended Camp Kirby this summer for either Day or Resident Camp, with many of them returning for more than just one week. Marshmallows were roasted, new songs were learned and sung, waterfront quidditch was a huge success, and friendships to last a lifetime were made.

None of the Kirby magic would be possible without the incredible staff and volunteers who give their time to Camp each summer. I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all of our amazing Day Camp volunteers, Resident Camp Staff members and volunteers, and everyone else who helps make this program possible. I also want to thank all of our campers and their families for allowing us to have such a fun time at Kirby this year. We are already looking forward to the future, and can’t wait for summer 2017!

WoHeLo, Kathryn “KitKat” Luera, Camp Kirby Camp Director

Be the Spark!

Camp Fire Samish is committed to encouraging youth to cultivate their unique talents and skills (their "Sparks")  through Club programs, self-reliance classes, community service, and camp experiences. We need your help to reach more children.

Camperships donations enable children to attend Camp who otherwise cannot afford it. Opportunity Funds are used for Camp Fire Club membership dues. Donations to the Kirby Fund are designated for use at Camp Kirby. Waterfront, archery, and wall programs need additional equipment so more children may use the areas at the same time. To designate gifts made directly to the council, just write Campership, Opportunity Funds, Kirby Funds, or Kirby Programs on your check or in the notes section for an online donation. See our donation page for more information.

Many people have asked about designating United Way contributions. You can designate your United Way contribution to Camp Fire Samish. Tax ID 91-0600598.

Clubs Forming Now!

Camp Fire provides a nurturing, constructive and fun environment for young people to discover their sparks—unique skills, passions, and interests—and adopt a growth mindset. They chart their own course to healthy habits, community leadership, and connection to nature in collaboration with trained, caring adults. And, in turn, Camp Fire youth give back by sharing those skills in their communities. Please contact the office for more information.

Memorials

We gratefully acknowledge the thoughtful gifts we have received in 2016. Donations have been made in honor of Anya & Noah Petroff-Howard and in memory of Virginia Holt, Brian Morrison, Ted Preg, Fred Vochatzer, Carolyn Brown, Marjorie Nordby, Joanne Reed and Irene Kasson.

For each donation, Camp Fire Samish notifies the loved one, or, if deceased, their family, that a gift in their honor has been received (with no dollar amount).

Wanted: Skagit Membership Manager

We know that Camp Fire programs make a positive difference in the lives of our youth and we want to extend this opportunity to as many youth as possible. We are please to announce a new opening for a Skagit Membership Manager. This position will recruit and support youth clubs in Skagit County. Click for more information.

Alumni

Were you a Camp Fire Boy or Girl? Did you go to Camp Kirby? Have you ever led a Camp Fire club? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, that means you’re a part of the Camp Fire Samish alumni! This group of wonderful people comprise a good portion of the Council as supporters and community members. Since they are such a big part of who we are, we felt it was only necessary that we feature them on our website. If you would like to have your loved one remembered on any of the new alumni webpages, please contact us at info@campfiresamish.org or call 360-733-5710.

We Need You!

Each year, Camp Kirby compiles a Wish List for items that are needed for Camp programs as well as for Camp general needs. Items can be brought to the main office in Bellingham or you can contact us for a drop off time and location in Skagit County. You can also donate funds to help purchase these items.

Thank You!

This year, over $17,000 was generously given toward Camperships. These funds allowed more than 70 youth to attend who otherwise could not afford to go to camp.

A special thank you to service groups: Burlington Lions, Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor, Soroptimists International of Mount Vernon, Rotary Club of Mount Vernon, Burlington Rotary Foundation, Rotary Club of Mt. Baker, Anacortes, Kiwanis Noon Club, Burlington - Edison Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Club of Skagit, Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers, Rotary Club of La Conner, American Legion #0147 for their contributions to Camperships, Opportunity Funds, Kirby Funds, and Kirby Programs & Equipment.

Thanks to everyone for helping to light the spark in youth.
We have a significant amount of lost and found from Day and Resident Camp at the main office in Bellingham. Please pick up found articles as soon as possible. All unclaimed items will be donated September 20.
