Late Spring 2017
Resident Camp
As I enter my tenth year as a part of our Camp staff, I can’t help but feel that this is the most exciting year yet! We have seen record-breaking registration and growth, which has allowed us to make lots of exciting changes for this upcoming summer season. In addition to expanding HiTor housing (treehouses) to accommodate an additional 8 campers each week, we have also invested in new housing for the MuaMi unit, where our 8th and 9th graders reside. MuaMi campers will now stay in brand new canvas platform tents, complete with brand new bunk beds! Campers will also notice additional opportunities within our OLS program area. It has been expanded to include three separate experiences: science and nature, outdoor living skills, and outdoor cooking.
Many of our sessions are close to full, with some age groups already completely full for the whole summer! If you haven’t already registered, I recommend doing so as soon as possible. We have also hired almost our entire staff, and let me tell you, they are an incredible group of people! We have a fabulous mix of fresh faces and returning staff members. We are still looking to fill a few positions in our kitchen, so please pass the word along to anyone you know who may be interested. More information and our application can be found on our website, Please contact me if you have any questions at or (360)733-5710.

Day Camp
“Space is the Place” Day Camp will be held June 26th – 30th.  This year there will be many interesting space characters joining us: Ewoks and Jedis, Minions and their rocket, and who could have camp without the police of Space Creatures, Men in Black? Please register online. There are still a few spots left!  We are also accepting applications for adult volunteers for our Day Camp week.  Applications can be found on our website,

Day Camp Director
Several years ago we committed ourselves to reach more youth. Thanks to so many people and organizations, we have done just that. We have added new Camp Fire Clubs, expanded (and filled) housing at Camp Kirby, increased the number of groups that use Camp Kirby, and begun new classes through Bellingham Parks & Recreation.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped expand our programs. You light the way for children to experience the magic of Camp Kirby, connect to their community and the natural world, enjoy hands-on learning and physical activities, and be a part of courses that create the next generation of leaders. Camp Fire Samish & Camp Kirby  help youth discover their “sparks” - their personally defined nuggets of potential.
Spring Camporee 2017 “Seussoree”
We could not, would not want to miss a celebration quite like this! Spring Camporee was one to see! More than 80 Camp Fire Club members from Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties attended the Spring “Seussoree” at Camp Kirby! The lodge was transformed into Seussville, kids played games like Horton and the Who’s, and everyone had a fabulous time! Saturday night, Clubs performed skits and songs with special guests Thing 1 and Thing 2.

It was good! It was fun! Thank you “River”, for making it such a special one!
Camp Fire Candy 2017
2017 started off with many of our Clubs participating in Candy Sales.  Candy sales build confidence within our youth while teaching goal setting and public speaking.  There was a tie for our top sellers: Kenzie Gross and Rylee Gross. Each sold over $5900 worth of candy!
Annual Meeting & New Board Member
Our Annual Meeting was held April 18. We want to welcome our newest board member, Jonathan Yousling. A big thank you goes out to returning board members Erin Adair, Mike Burns, Todd Frankenfield, Joan Harris, Loren McWilliams, Mark Roetcisoender, Vanessa Veit, and Shaun Wesen.

The 2016 Annual Report was presented at the Annual Meeting and is now available on our website.

Our Wish List items are an excellent way to give outside of traditional cash donations.  These items are needed specifically for this year’s Day and Resident Camp. The list is on Amazon and can be shipped directly to Camp Fire Samish. Maximize your gift using Amazon Smile where .5% of your purchase is donated to the charity of your choice.

With more than 300 items, our 11th Annual Birthday Dinner & Auction was one the best yet! A special thank you goes to our sponsors Bellingham Business Machines, Rice Insurance, E & J Gallow Winery, Sound Beverage Distributors, Pasek Cellars, FDG Web, and Fidalgo Medical Associates. After all expenses, the auction brought in over $38,000 and $11,150 of that is exclusively for Camperships!
