What People Say:

Beverly Dillow is the Proverbs 31 Woman. She has a reverence for God and it shows in all she does for her family, friends and women's ministry. I have known Beverly almost 16 years now. She was a fellow minister's wife and then a personal friend. We have since been involved in ministry on numerous occasions. I am grateful for her commitment to Jesus Christ and to women being equipped to know and to  follow Him. She is a gifted and talented writer, speaker and women's ministry coordinator. She is always open to change and to the work of  the Holy Spirit. You are blessed to know her.

My Legs Can’t Go Any Faster!
"Let all things be done decently and in order"  I Corinthians 14:40 NKJV

Recently, Andrea Willard, my mom and myself were traveling back from a Southern Gospel Festival in Branson, Missouri and had a layover in the Dallas airport. While walking down the terminal dodging people and trying to find our gate for the next flight, we heard a child screaming and crying. Everyone seemed to be looking around for the little one. We stepped to the side and saw a frazzled mom heading our way walking as fast as she could. There was a cute little boy running behind her screaming as loud as he could. He looked like he was about 3 or 4 years old. He had a backpack on his back that was almost as big as he was. The mother kept turning around telling him to hurry as he was screaming and crying. Finally, he stopped in his tracks and refused to go any further. He just stood and screamed. The mom turned and said, "Come on or I'm leaving you!" That didn't phase him, he kept screaming. She then said, "Okay, bye, see you later!" as she pretended to be walking away. He only screamed louder. Then the mom was obviously frustrated and pulled her own hair back in desperation. I then told my mom, "This is pitiful, that poor little boy and that poor mom... she doesn't have a clue what to do." Before I could finish my sentence, my mom was   heading over to them. I thought, "Oh no, that lady is going to turn her frustration on mom and then it won't be pretty!" I was preparing for anything to happen.

Mom went over and put her hand on the lady's shoulder and said, "just explain to him that he is going to be okay and he needs to go with you." She awkwardly started talking to him and mom said, "No, bend down on his level and look him in the eye to assure him." She did that and he calmed down a little. Mom said, "Now pick him up and tell him you love him and carry him for awhile." As she was hugging him she looked up at mom and said, "Thank you!" She went on her way without a screaming child. Mom walked back over to where I was waiting and watching and we went on our way.

The reason I wanted to share this story is, you may be like me and see this scenario go on all the time in stores and out about; I've  even been in the same situation when my children were small. We are in such a hurry to get somewhere. Our lives are filled as full as they can be and we expect our kids to understand without any explanation and without any care that they are little humans that have feelings and thoughts just as much as we do.

If your life is so fast and furious and you think your children just need to get used to it, you or your child will eventually have a meltdown and it won't be pretty. Do you want orderly and calm children? Then you need to have a life of order and calmness. They are following you as fast as their little legs will go.

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to raise my children in a peaceful and calm environment. A home of order and peace is what I desire. May that be how my children will remember our lives when they grow up and then be able to pass this on to their children.  May I be wise in choosing their daily activities and teach them to enjoy and learn, not just be one more thing for the calendar.  Thank you Lord, for trusting me with these little ones to raise in your love. Amen!
