...Property and Built Environment

Know a few students that might well be spending a bit too much time watching 'Homes Under the Hammer' and 'Escape to the Country'? Why not help them find out what is it really like working in the property sector? We can help you find out which qualifications will come in useful and what professional career support is available in this area, as well as featuring the latest initiatives and opportunities from the professions.

Total Professions, provider of professional career advice for students and careers advisers, begins a brand new 'Spotlight on...' careers bulletin aimed at careers advisers and professional bodies, to help them guide students on their pathway to a professional career. This first issue puts the property and built environment sector under the spotlight.

Pathways to Property is a new initiative at the Reading Real Estate Foundation created to widen access to the property profession. The programme is targeted at academically-able students from non-traditional backgrounds.

Year 12 students are now welcome to apply to the 2014 Pathways to Property summer school, which will take place from 20-23th July at the University of Reading and is free of charge. Find out more and apply at their website, where a short video is also available to watch and share. Students completing the summer school will have the opportunity to do a one week placement with a property firm, expenses paid.
There are various routes into careers in the property and built environment sector, which we explain in full in our career sectors on the site, along with information on funding, about specific jobs and salaries and case studies from those working or studying in the sector. However here are a few pointers to get you going: Go directly to the experts that can help students find their way to a professional career in this area via our Profession Finder.
