Jeremy observes as Steve leads Francis through an asana practice during the Desert Yoga School "Basic Yoga Teaching" program.
"Swa-ha!" We closed July's "Basic Yoga Teaching" program with a fire ceremony.
Namaste, Friends!

We walked the garden early today, before the heat built. It was a surprise to disrupt hundreds of large brown grasshoppers from a bed of Holy Basil! Most of the grape varieties have finished up for the year, but we breakfasted on the huge, round Red Globes and intensely grape-flavored dark purple Concords that still hang heavy on their vines. Figs are ripe on the Black Jack, Conadria, Black Mission and Violet de Bordeaux trees--we filled bowls and then retreated inside to sit by a fan with iced drinks.

Jeremy and I have been busy teaching the Desert Yoga School summer intensive programs. June's "Deepening Your Practice" 100-hour course gave us the opportunity to introduce some of yoga's lesser-known tools and ideas to students with established Asana (Posture) practices. The July "Basic Yoga Teaching" 100-hour course was an intense exercise in professional development for four yoga students who love the practice so much that they want to share it with others. I've included photos from the "Basic Yoga Teaching" program in this newsletter.

Yoga Practitioners' Potluck
July's Yoga Practitioners' Potluck was a delight, with a huge array of salads and spreads that I intended to keep track of...until I was swept away by a coconut-peach cobbler that I found in the dessert area! Thank you to everyone who came to share plant-based nourishment for the body and positive companionship for the mind.
August Yoga Practitioners' Potluck:

Introductory Courses at UNLV
This summer, 19 undergraduate students established self-led home yoga practices in conjunction with the introductory course I teach as PEX169. I am so grateful for the opportunity to give the gift of self-led yoga practice to UNLV undergraduate students! 93% of the 135 students who participated in the program during the 2018-19 school year reported that the yoga practice helped them to reduce and/or manage their stress and/or anxiety. It's exciting to get feedback that students are able to see improvement in their life experiences when they take on a 30-minute asana routine and a few breathing exercises!
Fall semester sections are nearly full--info is on the UNLV website.

Winter Posture/Asana Workshop Series
Registration is open for the Desert Yoga School Winter Posture Workshop Series! Four well-rounded sessions that are open to practitioners who have an established postures practice and want to focus their attention on understanding and executing different types of shapes. Saturdays in December and January, $140 for the full 18-hour course--our most affordable program. Full details on the Desert Yoga School website.
