Up Your Energy Level Naturally

Just Water?

Yes, my quick and easy tip is to drink more water!  Pure water - coffee and juice don't count, or obviously soda! 

It seems simple, but most of us don’t drink enough water.  Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces per day.  So if you weigh 150 pounds, try to drink 75 ounces of pure water per day.  This is only a guideline, of course.  If you are very active or outside in excessive heat, you may need more. 

Try to drink water upon waking.  Before food, coffee or tea, drink pure water.  Squeezing lemon into warm water is very detoxifying to the body, and this is a great way to start the day.  Lemon water will boost your energy, help to eliminate toxins, and improve your digestion. 

What if you drink lots of water but you still fall into a slump at 3:00pm?  Well, there is so much that goes into our health and energy levels, and everyone is unique.   

Have you ever heard a friend rave about her new eating habits and she looked so fabulous that you tried it too?  But when you tried it you gained weight, felt lethargic, or had acne breakouts? If you want to feel really indulgent, try this Peanut Butter Banana Milkshake.  You will feel like you are really treating yourself – but you are really just treating yourself well!

And this Strawberry-Banana Green Smoothie is a must-try for you and your kids.  It passed with flying colors at my Kids Snacks Cooking Class last month:

1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup almond milk
2 handfuls spinach
1-2 medjool dates, pitted, or honey to taste
¼ cup almonds or 1 tbsp almond butter

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. (Serves 2 adults or my 3 kids.)
