Whoah! New classes, new studio

Cheep cheep! Yep I heard them too – the birds are singing, the days are longer and the big question in life is whether it’s time to shed the winter coats and go frolicking into the summer grass. Note to self, not quite yet. The sun might be out, but the wind is brutal. In fact this spring has been so wintery that maybe we should just call it Sprinter.

Anyway, spring or no spring, I'm a yoga teacher not a weatherman and I know for sure that the yoga flow continues to bring sunny spells across Glasgow.

This month’s big news: I've got a whole bunch of NEW classes at a new studio in Woodlands, starting on 24 April. I’ll be teaching Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime classes, and two Thursday evening ones. More details below.

In other news, on Monday 22 April there’ll be NO CLASS at Hillhead Sports Club, because I’ll be flying back from Helsinki. The timetable will be back to normal from Tuesday. You could think of it as saving yourself for Thursday, right?

And if you’re thinking of doing a bit of spring cleaning, you should read up on how useful your yoga practice can be for that: I wrote a blog a while back on yoga for the party season, but I reckon it’s pretty transferable. More on that below.

NEW CLASSES

From 24 April I will be teaching new classes at:

Yogabellies West End Studio
27 Woodside Place
Glasgow
G3 7LQ.

Wednesdays, 12.30pm-1.20pm

Thursdays, 12.30pm-1.20pm // 6.15pm-7.15pm // 7.30pm-8.30pm.

Prices:

£10 drop-in
£55 six-class pass (valid for 2 months)
£85 ten-class pass (valid for 2 months)

20% off for students.

It's a great space, with all the blocks and props and straps to make the harder poses a little easier. There's a cafe downstairs and a garden outside, so when the weather finally heats up a bit we'll be doing sun salutes out on the grass.

All the classes will be Vinyasa Flow, but the lunchtime ones will be a bit slower, with the emphasis on refreshing you for the afternoon rather than powering you through the evening. For all the new classes I’ll be putting together new sequences for a light springy feel. They might even put a spring in your step. Ok ok, enough with the spring puns now.

Spring Cleaning? Read this first:

So maybe you've thought of doing a bit of yoga at home, starting up a self-practice (give it a go!). But the thing is, as soon as you decide to maybe do a bit of yoga, everything else seems more important. Like, for instance, cleaning the house before people come over. So why not just combine the two? There’s already yoga for running, cycling, swimming, the seasons, the kids, the cats and so on. So why not yoga for cleaning? They were made for each other, I promise.

Forward bends

Obviously, a yoga class for cleaning the house will be all about forward bends (unless you’re bending over backwards trying to clean up after the kids). Forward bends are great for opening up the hamstrings, releasing the lower back, and picking stuff up off the floor. Start off the pre-party clean with a couple of padangusthasanas, or their variation, pickupangusthana: continue reading

Covers and Cancellations

On Saturday 20 April my friend Laura will be covering the MCY classes that morning. She trained in Canada and is genuinely awesome, so do go along for your regular Vinyasa Flow fix.

On Monday 22 April there will be NO CLASS at Hillhead Sports Club.

Everything back to normal on Tuesday 23 April. Phew!

Private Classes

Want to nail those harder poses? Fancy a bit more time to get to grips with transitions? How about a private class?

I'm available for private classes to fit in with your schedule, whether that's mornings, evenings, during the day, or any other time you can find. I can travel to you at home or work, and the classes will be tailored specifically to you. It could be a regular monthly treat or a one-off lesson to get deeper into a pose. You might want to see what it's like to be free of the limitations of a group setting, to be able to explore and accelerate your learning. Contact me for further details.
