5 SIEGE UND EIN ABSCHIED
Am vergangenen Wochenende reihten unsere Teams Sieg an Sieg. Die NLA mit einem Shutout gegen die Eagles, die NLB mit zwei Comebacks gegen die Mustangs und die Softballerinnen mit der Playoff-Qualifikation gegen die Devils.

Aber es ging auch ein grosses Kapitel in der Clubgeschichte zu Ende. Rob Sedin bestritt seine letzte Partie mit den Challengers. Er setzt seine Karriere in Nordamerika fort. Thank you and all the best, Rob!

C's GO DOWN IN LOCAL DERBY

The Challengers gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday, August 26 en route to a 1-7 loss against the first placed Zürich Barracudas. The C's couldn't convert their scoring chances, as they produced only one run with ten hits. The Barracudas (18-5) will finish the qualification round in first place and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs, while the Challengers (14-9) will battle with the Therwil Flyers (13-7) for second place.

CHALLENGERS ROLL OVER EAGLES

The Challengers improved their record to 14-8, as they posted a 10-0 shutout victory over the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, August 23 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Ryan Byrne was brilliant once more, as he tossed seven frames of one-hit ball with two walks while striking out 10. Byrne lowered his ERA to 1.41. The C's took a 3-0 lead into the second inning as Thomas Burger drove in Tobias Siegrist with an RBI-single to open the score and added two more in the fourth. Both Burger and Siegrist went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Robert Sedin drove in three runs in his farewell game for the Challengers. Sedin batted .393 with 131 hits, 64 RBI's and scored 103 runs and had a 15-11 record and a 2.51 ERA with 262 strikeouts in 218.2 innings pitched in his three seasons with the C's.

NLB-TEAM BATTLES, REMAINS UNBEATEN

The NLB-Team kept its perfect record alive with two close wins over the Embrach Mustangs on Saturday, August 23. The Challengers erased a seven-run deficit, as they edged the Mustangs 12-11 in Game 1. Carlos Nepomuceno had four hits, while Kurt Kovac and Daiki Sato delivered three hits each. In the second game of the day the C's, trailing 1-8 in the top of the fourth inning, exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to eventually win 13-11. Yusuke Azuma had two hits and drove in three, while Francesco Falcone and Adrian Chines Amoros added two hits apiece. The C's will face the second placed Zürich Barracudas on August 30 for a night game.

LADIES SWEEP DEVILS, CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

The Softball Team Zürich swept the Wil Devils on Saturday, August 23 to reach the .500 mark and to clinch a playoff berth. Zürich erased a six run deficit and Corina Grass broke a 7-7 tie with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning, as the ladies rallied for a 14-10 win in Game 1. Grass went 3-for-4, while Leandra Simitovic and Simona Cellar delivered two hits and score twice each.

In Game 2 starter Tori Shepard kept the Devils' bats under control, as Zürich won 4-1 to finish the preeliminary round in third place with a 8-8 record. Zürich will face the Luzern Eagles for a best-of-three semi-final series with games 1 and 2 on September 13 at Reussbühl.
GAME PREVIEWS
BASEBALL NLB at BARRACUDAS
Saturday August 30, 2014 - 7pm
The NLB-Team will play its local rivals Zürich Barracudas on Saturday, August 30 at 7 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark in what will be the second night game for the two teams in 2014. The Challengers (14-0) still have a perfect record and a 5.5 games lead over the second placed Barracudas (9-6). The C's edged the Barracudas in the first night game winning 4-3.

Das NLB-Team misst sich am Samstag, 30. August um 19.00 Uhr im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli mit dem Stadtrivalen Zürich Barracudas. Die Challengers sind noch immer ungeschlagen und weisen einen Vorsprung von 5.5 Spielen auf die zweitplatzierten Barracudas auf. Es wird dies das zweite Nightgame der beiden Teams in dieser Saison sein. Im ersten setzten sich die Challengers knapp mit 4-3 durch.
BASEBALL CADETS at CARDINALS/FROGS
Saturday August 30, 2014 - 12am & 2.30pm
The U15-Cadets will face the Cardinals/Frogs on Saturday, August 30 at Dulliken. It will be the first gameday in the round for fifth to tenth place in the standings for the SG TruckStar/Challengers. The games will begin at noon and 2.30 pm at Dulliken UNtere Ey.

Die U15-Cadets treffen am Samstag, 30. August in Dulliken auf die Spielgemeinschaft der Cardinals/Frogs. Es ist dies der erste Spieltag der Platzierungsrunde für die Ränge 5 bis 10. Spielbeginn ist um 12.00 und 14.30 Uhr auf dem Sportplatz Untere Ey.

GOODBYE ROB

Mit dem Spiel gegen die Eagles am Samstag ging ein grosses Kapitel in der Geschichte der Challengers zu Ende. Rob Sedin bestritt seine letzte Partie in der Uniform mit dem roten Z. Rob war einer der besten Spieler der Vereinsgeschichte. In seinen 3 Spielzeiten hinterliess er seine Spuren mit seinen 26 Stolen Bases im 2012, die beste Marke in 12 Jahren, seiner ERA von 1.61 im 2012, die drittbeste Marke in der Vereinsgeschichte und mit seinen 135 Strikeouts im 2013, die bis dieses Jahr die Bestmarke darstellte. Mit seinen Total 262 Strikeouts ist er innert kürzester Zeit zum 7.besten Pitcher in der Geschichte der Challengers geworden, und unvergessen bleiben seine 20 Strikeouts letztes Jahr in einem Spiel gegen die Lions, ein Rekord für die Ewigkeit.

Als Teamkamerad wurde er dank seiner ruhigen aber amüsanten Art von allen geschätzt. Rob beginnt in dieser Woche ein Studium in Kanada. Sein Abgang ist ein grosser Verlust für die Challengers Familie und wir hoffen, dass er in irgendeiner Art und Weise zu uns zurückfindet. Wir wünschen ihm für seine Zukunft alles Gute.
