The 2019 dive season is well under way, and we have already had some amazing underwater moments. On our last Santa Cruz Island trip aboard the Peace Dive Boat, we spent over 30 min face to face with a 6-ft black sea bass! The gentle giant was very curious and inquisitive. We were awed by its intelligence as it spent the entire dive with us. We have never had an experience like this before! Such an awesome dive!! Join us on our next adventure where you can have awesome encounters like this.
Ocean Safari Becomes the Newest REEF Conservation Partner
Last month, we announced our new Underwater Naturalist certification course. To expand the program, we have partnered up with Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) and are participating in their volunteer fish (and invertebrate) survey program. Now, anyone who wants to practice being underwater naturalists can contribute to real-world science! All you need to know is a few marine species, a slate, and a waterproof survey sheet, and you can start collecting data that will be used by scientists, policy makers, and government agencies! This underwater scavenger hunt is a great way to 1) spice up your dives with a new perspective, 2) learn more marine life species, 3) make a difference in conservation efforts, and 4) have tons of fun while doing it. It utilizes the most easy (but effective) survey method and REEF’s marine life database is the largest in the world. This project will be our 2019 focus for marine conservation.

NEW! Youth Summer Program: Aqua SEAL
Science Enrichment & Adventure Lifestyle

We all know that teens want to have 100% fun, but as parents, we also know that academics, extracurricular activities, and STEM education is also very important. Here at Ocean Safari, we want everyone to safely explore nature through lifelong outdoor adventures. We are excited to let you know that we have combined all of these three aspects into our new Youth Summer Program.

The Aqua SEAL program will teach biology, ecology, oceanography, conservation, and environmental science through aquatic adventures, while guiding youth through practical experiences that teaches them how to explore the ocean in a safe way. This aquatic program includes skin diving pool sessions, Stand Up Paddleboard field trip, tidepool trip, island boat trip, marine life class, and intro to scuba session. This camp will build a foundation of a strong, aquatic lifestyle as the teens grow up, and strives to spark their interest in science along the way. Let’s get kids off their electronics and jump into the water while the sun’s out!
