Is Your HVAC System Ready for Summer Heat?

Just as a tune-up for your car can improve your gas mileage, a regular tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort.

As we gear up for summer, it’s a good idea to do a pre-season check up to ensure that your cooling system is working properly when the hot weather arrives.

Here are 5 steps you can take to  ensure your HVAC system runs smoothly this summer:
1) Clean air conditioning coils
Dirty coils can reduce the system's ability to cool your building and cause the system to run longer. They can also increase energy costs and reduce the life of your equipment so it’s important to keep your coils clean.
2) Clean cooling towers
Keeping cooling towers clean is central to maximising the efficiency and performance of your HVAC system. Dirty water in your cooling tower can negatively impact chillers, rob heat exchange efficiency and drive up energy costs. BC Comfort service staff can easily maintain cooling towers to ensure they are clean and running efficiently.
3) Plan for boiler maintenance
Boiler operation and maintenance are closely tied together. Good operation includes performing both regular and periodic maintenance. Conducting regular boiler maintenance can reduce boiler operating and energy costs, while improving safety and extending the life of your boiler.
4) Check air filters
If your air filter looks dirty, it’s time to change it. A dirty filter will slow down airflow and make the system work harder to keep occupants cool in summer.
A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system, which can lead to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.
5) Check system controls
It’s also a good idea to also double check your system controls. Check the starting cycle of the equipment to assure the system starts, operates, and shuts down properly.
BC Comfort can help keep your HVAC maintenance on track and prevent problems from cropping up, helping you save both time and money. Contact one of our Service Experts today to learn more about how to best prepare your HVAC system for summer.
