Leonora carnival a gift to region

A record number of athletes took part in the 19th annual Leonora Golden Gift athletic carnival on the WA Day Long Weekend.

Almost 200 participants and more than 1,100 spectators descended on Leonora for the biggest weekend in the event’s history.

The event was headlined by the Golden Mile, Australia’s richest one-mile running race with a prize pool of $65,000.

The carnival spanned the entire weekend, and also featured a community festival, concert, fireworks display, children’s entertainment and activities and market stalls.

The GEDC supported this year’s Leonora Golden Gift with $10,000 in funding through a State Government Regional Economic Development grant.
