Dear Friends

At the beginning of December, Derby City Council announced their budget consultation for the years 2016-19. In 2016-17 Derby Museums is facing a cut of £170k which is more or less in line with our expectations. We have modelled a budget to take this reduction into account, which may see a reduction in some of the activities we provide. Of greater concern are the proposals for financial year 2018/19 which removes all local authority funding for museums. The consequence of such action would likely result in closures of the city’s museums. Derby City Council have started a budget consultation to ascertain the views of the public and we urge all our supporters to let the council know how they feel about these proposals.

The budget consultation can be found here.

The question that applies to the museum budget is the second question
“How strongly do you agree or disagree with proposals for Communities and Place?”
If you disagree to the museum budget being cut, then we recommend you select disagree or strongly disagree and to write in the box why you disagree to the museum budget being cut.
Any support you can give the museum will help its cause and ensures we continue to help people learn about and appreciate Derby’s Heritage.

Thank you,
Tony Butler
Executive Director
