Notes from the President

XV AIMC Congress in Spilimbergo, an
exceptional mosaic experience
The 15th international congress of the AIMC members, hosted by the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli took place on 18-21 May 2016 in Spilimbergo, Italy. More than  100 people coming from 28 different countries attended the 3 days long congress and watched 38 very interesting presentations.
The international exhibition of the AIMC members was held at the prestigious Palazzo Tadea of Spilimbergo.  The excellent catalog with the presentations of the congress  and the works of 72 mosaicists from  30 countries, published by the Scuola, is a permanent record of this important exhibition.
Coupled with planned side events such as the visit to the  full of mosaic works Scuola, to the mosaic exhibitions of numerous workshops, to the public places around the city of Spilimbergo adorned with mosaic installations, the participants shared a great experience, participating in a unique feast, which had as its epicenter the Contemporary Mosaic.
The great success of the event was not a coincidence. It was based on the significant participation of the AIMC members and above all, on the flawless organization of the events by the famous Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. It will remain unforgettable to all participants, besides the excellent organization, the hospitality of the organizers and the professionals of the city of Spilimbergo.
I would like to thank the President of the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli Alido Gerussi, the director Gian Piero Brovedani, the curator of the exhibition Massimo Bettin and their collaborators, the president of the Congress Manfred Hoehn and Giovanni Travisanutto for his  overall contribution and of course all AIMC members for their participation in this very successful congress and the highly creative atmosphere that it created. A special thank you I believe deserve  the numerous Brazilian and Greek team, who attended the AIMC events faithfully.

On the evening of May 20th, the Scuola offered the congress participants a wonderful dinner, at the restaurant of the Grand Hotel President, with excellent food and wine, which facilitated friendly discussions among the participants.

                                             Aquileia excursion
One of the highlights of the congress, generously offered by the Scuola,  was the Sunday guided tour to Aquileia and Grado, accompanied by an excellent lunch break, which we concluded in high spirits, following the tradition of the previous night's dinner.

And now, the AIMC assembly's acceptance of Renée and  Gilles Antoine /Mosaique Magazine's proposal,  let us begin visualizing our next congress, which will take place in September 2018 in Lyon and Paray-le-Monial, France, with the collaboration of  Mosaïque Contemporaine Rhône-Alpes based in Lyon,  Maison de la Mosaïque Contemporaine in Paray-le-Monial, and Mosaïque Magazine.
