Art Gallery NiArt Cultura:
Gérard Brand
Mosaic Otherwise
October 25 - November 15, 2014
niArt GALLERY
VIA ANASTAGI 4a/6, Ravenna, Italy
Invitation to Exhibition: Italian French
About the artist: Gérard Brand was born in Obernai in Alsace, France, where he lives and works. In 1958 when he was 17 years old, he held his first exhibition of mosaic in his hometown. In his activities he counts 45 years of artistic research and speaks of a "journey towards transparency". He invented a style in search of lightness; he creates vacuum, allowing the viewer to see through his sculptural forms. During this “journey”, he explored the "Recup'Art" and made monumental wall mosaics. But in 1979 he initiated the studies for a "different mosaic "and showed his first results in 1997. His work became more complex and worked with all types of materials: marble, stone, enamel, fused glass, gold, bone, iron, stainles steel ... he creates baroque and poetic works.
He is the creator of many public, religious and private works. In Alsace, he created a 32- meter long mosaic for the European Parliament in Strasbourg. He has also worked in Yamoussoukro and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire and in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He organizes the Mosaic Biennale in Obernai, which he started in 2003.

Hellenic Mosaic Association

The Hellenic Mosaic Association presents the following events during the month of November, 2014 in order to promote contemporary mosaic art in Greece:
• November 1 and 2: Amfikleia High School, central Greece. The members of the Association, along with students and teachers from the school, participated in a "mosaic marathon", decorating several cement benches located in the school courtyard. An area of 25 square meters was covered with mosaic. This event was sponsored by MAPEI HELLAS.
This event will be combined with an exhibition of posters showing works of AIMC members, which had been presented during the XII Congress of AIMC in Athens, 2010. After the exhibition in Athens, the artists donated the posters to the Hellenic Mosaic Association, who in turn donated them to the High School of Amfikleia for decoration of its classrooms.

Invader
Invader - The invasion of Ravenna
Opening: Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 5.30 pm
Curator: Marte
Coordinator: Daniele Torcellini
Venue: Planetario di Ravenna, Giardini Pubblici
Supported by: Comune di Ravenna, Assessorato alla Cultura Ravenna2019
Ditta Pirini Giancarlo and with the collaboration of: MAR - Museo d’Arte della Città Planetario di Ravenna.
Beginning on October 11, 2014, the external facade of the Planetarium of Ravenna will host the permanent installation of a 20 square meters mosaic, created by Invader, an internationally known French artist. For the past 15 years, Invader has been filling the streets with Space Invaders, resurrected from the eponymous late-70s arcade game in which pixelated aliens set out to conquer Earth.
Working under the pseudonym of Invader, the artist has taken the idea behind the game and applied it to the real world by letting Space Invaders break out of the screen and onto the walls of the world’s major cities, as mosaic tiles, where each pixel is a tile. Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Mombasa and Katmandu are some of the “invaded” cities around the world. Now Ravenna, one of the most famous city of the world for its mosaic heritage, is one of them. Adrian Paci
La gloria vostra fu sole
Gallery Kaufman Repetto
via di Porta Tenaglia 7, Milano
Solo exhibition of Adrian Paci
Curated by Pierpaolo Campanini
Exhibition: September 19 - November 8, 2014
Exhibition of painter Adrian Paci, including two mosaics of Franc Paci on Adrian Paci's cartoons.
. . .The mosaics reveal to us, by their very nature the essence of the work of Adrian Paci: dust and earth, narrated often in the drawings, create the mortar. The artist goes in search of the marbles to change the nature of the events into epic. The stones narrate well and, through the images, they protect like amulets: they bring with them good luck, become ornament and blessing…

ii. Wolfson Gallery, Library, School of African and Oriental Studies, SOAS, Russell Square, WC1H 0XG London, England. January 26 - March 26, 2015
Artist's Statement
‘There is an invisible creator in the desert - the wind - which forms landscapes of continual change . . . The realisation that nothing in this world is permanent is one which has absorbed my thinking for many years. I use the qualities inherent within my materials of gold and glass to manipulate light and to try to fix for eternity something which I know, no longer exists . . . This is the real meaning and lesson of the desert ...to convince us of the only certainty -death - while telling us that there is only life and perpetual transformation.' Elaine M. Goodwin. 2014
