Happy New Year!

The Board hopes you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready for an exciting 2014.  Last year  was great for WCGC. Our membership numbers continued to grow and we threw a lot of targets. We held some great events and have even more coming up in 2014.

2014 Memberships

The new membership cards are in and are now available for new members and renewals. This year, each member will receive a small West Chester Gun Club patch with each membership. These patches are plastic backed and can be sewed on or attached via a hot press iron. Your laminated membership card will still be used by the desk.

As with last year, each membership is a full family membership for $ 60 and covers the member, member's spouse, and any children under 18.

Your 2013 membership is still valid until March 31. Memberships are to be renewed before April 1.

Memberships can be renewed at the club or online.

Elections on April 2, Wednesday

Your membership entitles you to vote and run for the Board of Directors (after one year of continuous membership)  in order to shape how the Club operates and supports the members.* If you would like to be more directly involved, please consider putting your name up for this cycle. You can talk to any members of the Board.

The Board consists of 4 officers (President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary) and 7 directors. It has appointed Pete Alois, Nick Fantanarosa and Jim Hogan to the election committee, to handle these  elections. They will ensure that the names of all candidates are on the ballot, and facilitate the mechanics of the elections on April 2. Details to follow separately.

AIM program & Shoot Dates

This year, WCGC is getting involved in the ATA AIM program and will host AIM events through the year. We are delighted to encourage new shooters to learn responsibility and safety while competing.

AIM is a youth program for kids 5th through 12th grade to compete as a team while occasionally traveling to other clubs to compete. The program is run by Club member Fran Jacobs who launched a similar program in California before relocating back to PA in 2012. Fran had impressive success in California and had kids win the CA state championships. If you have a child interested in shooting more and competing in a no-pressure team atmosphere, check out the AIM program.

AIM costs $25 to join (ATA fees) and the team will meet on Tuesday nights.

Achievement Patches

We now have West Chester Gun Club achievement patches. If you get 25, 50, 75 or 100 straight, we have a patch for you! Starting in February,  we will start awarding them. It doesn't even have to be your first 25 straight.

To earn a patch, you need to be in any of our scored rounds. This includes Green Bird, Big 50, ATA, or a complete round witnessed by a Board member. We will hold some general scored practice as well to help you earn each patch.

When you get your first 25 straight of 2014, see the desk to get your patch.

Spring Clean Up

We will be planning another spring clean up day plus small maintenance projects in March. We ask now for volunteers to help. Please talk with any Board member.

We will have a sign up sheet and list of projects as we get closer to March.

A big “Thank You” to our Volunteers.

Your Club does not run without the support and help of its members. We would like to thank some key members who have helped us greatly in the past year.

Charlie Sutter - Thank you to Charlie, who is always available to help open the Club and get the fields ready for shooting. Charlie has helped with many tasks each week, in particular loading the trap houses.

Sam Guerrera – Thank you to Sam, who has volunteered to be our Range Master making sure our operations are always safe. This is an important function, and we know that all members agree in promoting, fostering, encouraging, expecting and demanding safety anywhere on the grounds.

John Karm - Thank you to John, for helping with the frequent mowing in the late summer.

Bill Coffee - Bill has been taking our cardboard waste to the township building for recycling. This helps keep our dumpster available for the other trash.

And a huge Thank You to anyone who has come early to help open the Club and also stayed late to close up…… Willie, Bruce, John, and others.

Speaker on Feb. 11 – Trout Unlimited

Paula Piatt, TU’s representative for PA/NJ/NY, will speak to interested Club members about the impact on our hunting and fishing environment of Marcellus Shale drilling. Details to follow.

Chester County Sheiff Wild Game Dinner Tickets

WCGC has purchased 3 tables for the Wild Game Dinner on March 1. This fundraiser for the Chester County K-9 unit is a fun time with the meal consisting of game provided by the sheriffs who hunted the meat. Last year’s menu had alligator, deer, wild turkey, and boar among the various dishes served.
There are plenty of raffles for firearms and ammo, and an auction for more. Open bar.

Tickets are on sale at the Club house for $45 per person.
