Different but the Same
With the restrictions brought about by Covid-19, Christmas may be a little different this year for many of us. However, some things don’t change!
...the anticipation we feel as we select a gift for that special someone…the joy we feel when the gift is received, opened and delighted in.
...the joy in the heart of a child who has patiently and carefully drawn a picture or made a gift especially for mom or dad, grandma or grandpa, and the gift is received, opened and made much of.
...the blessing of being on the receiving end of a gift, which is the tangible expression of love from someone who loves us.
Yes, Christmas is still a time of giving.
God’s gift to us—His Son— is an expression of His infinite love (see John 3:16, Isaiah 9:6).
Wrapped up in Christ are eternal life and more blessings than we can comprehend (see John 1:16).
Have you considered God’s joy when we receive and delight in His gift? (See Zephaniah 3:17.)
Christmas is still a time of receiving.
God gave, but to have, we must receive His gift (John 1:12). Have you received God’s gift?
If not, why not right now? Will you receive Christ as your Savior?
If you have, do you delight in all that God has done for you by giving His Son?
This Christmas time, as you prepare gifts to be given and anticipate gifts to be received, take time to consider God’s great love for you, the priceless gift He has given, then truly thank Him with a grateful heart.
The Book of Psalms in the Old Testament shows us Israel’s response in faith to God’s revelation of Himself.
Even before the Incarnation—the coming of Jesus Christ to earth—the psalmists recorded how great God is and how ready He is to help His people. How much more should we realize this after the Son of God, “God with us,” has been revealed to us.
Written by Kathy Rowland, current president and former director of Joy of Living from 1980 to 2019, Knowing God Through the Psalms is a six-lesson Bible study in the 5.5” by 8.5” spiral-bound format (the same as the other study in this series).
Each lesson contains daily questions. The Bible verses referenced each day are listed for the reader’s convenience on the right hand side of each day’s two facing pages. (We suggest that the verses be read in their entirety in the reader’s Bible.) Additional reading is provided at the bottom of the page for those who want to explore the subject more thoroughly, but is not required for the daily study.
This series is a great way to introduce people to the exciting, joyful adventure of Bible study, with the hope they will move on to other, in-depth Joy of Living studies.

August 21st of this year marked 25 years of faithful, dedicated service that Brenda Kilgore has given to Joy of Living. She first began working part-time in the billing department. As her children grew older, she took on more hours and more responsibilities, including but not limited to, reviewing all new studies and checking the accuracy of all Bible verses listed in the new studies. Along with taking orders she reviews and prepares audio lectures for distribution.
A soft-spoken, gentle woman, Brenda has been a great blessing to fellow employees and the customers she helps. Although, because of the pandemic, we had to wait nearly two months to celebrate her 25th Anniversary with Joy and present her with a token of our love and appreciation, we finally took her to lunch at a restaurant of her choice. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and we ate outside.
Of her time at Joy of Living, she says, "I didn’t expect to work at any job this long. When I first began at Joy of Living, I was a single mother with three children at home. My kids are now all grown up and I am the grandmother of five wonderful “grand-babies.”
My co-workers have become my family in the Lord and we have shared life’s ups and downs with each other. I’ve also come to know and love many of our customers, even though we have never met face to face.
As I’ve proofread the studies and reviewed audio lectures, I have learned so much and have grown in the Lord."
It has truly been a joy and a blessing to work at Joy of Living.”
