FanFair 22 - Spring Update!

That springtime feeling is in the air; warm days, open windows, the afternoon breeze and seeing the trees and shrubs begin to bloom. It’s a wonderful time of year and a great time for an update on developments for this year’s Fair. The annual planning trip to Provincetown was extremely successful, and like the season, there is much newness in town this spring. Along with several new owners, many of the venues, restaurants, and inns are in the midst of many capital projects and updates, getting ready for what is expected to be an incredible summer season leading into this year’s Fair. More news on the planning trip is covered later in this update.

Your organizing committee has been hard at work and meeting regularly since our event last year. Members of your planning committee this year are Jen L. Kate B, Rhonda Williams, Jolie LaValle, Dee LaValle, and returning in an emeritus role is Dallas Denny. We are pleased that Nick Grenier and Denise Victoria have joined us this year as our newest members.

Over the winter several projects began to take shape. Our website underwent a refresh under the direction of our website mistress, Jen L. To better serve our new Fairgoers, a “Welcome Committee” has been formed, tasked with reimagining the resources made available for newcomers. Instead of a first-timer only having a single “big sibling,” they now have access to a group of Fair veterans who will be able to answer questions and help them get the most out of their Fair experience. Members of the Welcome Committee are Christen Barnsfield, Erin Daily, Lauren Kong, Karen Jandro, Dee LaValle, Jolie LaValle, Jossy Lopez, and Tina Simmons. We will have more specifics on this group and the resources developed in a later newsletter and on our website. If you are interested in joining this group, please reach out to Dee at
dee@fantasiafair.org. BTW, we are accepting scholarship requests into July, so this would be a great time to encourage someone you know to consider applying. More info can be found at: https://fanfair.info/scholarships/

In the coming days, the 2022 Pioneer Award nominee will be announced, followed by our keynote lineup. There is still time for you to consider hosting a workshop. Workshops are a wonderful way for you to get involved and exchange ideas with fellow attendees. More info can be found at: https://fanfair.info/workshops/

As mentioned, this past week was our annual planning trip to Provincetown. Fair Director Dee LaValle and Board Chair Dallas Denny met with each venue and our Fair partners to understand the current happenings and make plans for an amazing event in October. The additions and updates are numerous. For example, the new Crown and Anchor is undergoing a complete overhaul in its decor, with a new kitchen and chef, major technology upgrades in the Paramount Room, and they are adding a new meeting space which will also be a library. The new ownership group is excited to welcome us, and we are working through the many details to best leverage these new options. Bayside Betsey’s also has a new owner, and we are expecting an expansive new set of food offerings to go along with his energizing hospitality. Tin Pan Alley and Post Office will be returning with several new menu updates in their offerings, and we are in the development stages of a unique nightly late-night experience and entertainment. We will have an update on this exciting development over the summer. Additionally, to round out our visit, we are pleased to announce the return of our wonderful photographer, Dan McKeon, and last year’s hit, Bingo, will be back in an expanded block, hosted once again by Austin Tyler and our very own Carrie Lopes. We could go on and on, but be on the lookout for future announcements as FanFair-Transgender Week 2022 comes into focus.

FanFair is always looking for those who want to share their special knowledge or skills to conduct workshops for the Fair participants. Do you cut and style hair? Do you have a flair with makeup? Do you run a support group or social group for transgender people in your area? Are you a transgender activist in your area? Whatever you have to offer to other Fair attendees, we want to hear about it. Send us a proposal at https://fanfair.info/workshops/
We want every person who desires to attend FanFair to be able to do so. Because of this we offer a scholarship program that can cover lodging, Fair tickets, travel, or all the above. The pandemic has left a lot of us with reduced funds and in trying times. If you are in need, please apply for a Fair scholarship. All entries are confidential to the Committee and awards are private. https://fanfair.info/scholarships/
Paid for in part by the Provincetown Visitor's Center.
