FanFair News & Notes. . .

The dog days of summer are upon us and we are just a mere two months away from opening day of Fantasia Fair #44. Over the past few weeks, the planning committee has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on what is shaping up to be an amazing week. 

In July, Dee made a final planning visit to Provincetown for final negotiations and to tie up loose ends to insure a seamless fair week. Some of the more noteworthy developments from the trip: the addition of a dinner and dance, secured commitments with our lunch partners, who are building menus, a meeting with town leadership to strengthen the Fair’s already impeccable relationship with Provincetown, met with the UU leadership team and toured the church to discuss their selection as this year’s charity. 

Outside of Provincetown, Dallas has been working tirelessly, updating and creating our brand-new website (fanfair.info). It has come a long way in a short time. The 100-reason countdown began; it includes traditional reasons to attend the fair but also many eclectic reasons as well. The scholarship process just concluded, and three people who otherwise would never have had the opportunity will be attending the Fair this fall. The real credit for this goes to you! Your donations to the scholarship fund have made this possible. We’ve added many workshops, sold ads, begun the layout process for this year’s Participant’s Guide, and responded to prospective Fairgoers’ questions. On the administrative side, the Fair purchased a color laser printer to reduce outside printing costs for tickets and collateral material and for use on the FanFair Gazette newspaper, which will be distributed daily during the Fair. Finally, orders have been placed for consumables like name badges, ticket material, and more. Just this week, we finalized the design and ordered this year’s recognition awards and charms. 

Planning is very much on schedule and each one of the members of the planning committee is looking forward to an exciting Fair and a fabulous week full of friends, fun, and laughter. We hope you are making plans to be a part of it!



Meal and Event selections to open
on Sunday, September 2nd. 


 
Menus are being tweaked and finalized as you read this. We anticipate opening the selection process on Sunday, September 2nd. If you are registered for the Fair by this date, you will receive an automated email notifying you to return to the registration system to make your selections of meals and events. To help everyone make informed choices, 10 days prior to the opening of the selection process, the 100-reason posts on both Facebook pages, the Fantasia Fair discussion page and the open Fantasia Fair page will provide overviews of each restaurant participating followed by the daily menu offerings. A downloadable document from the website will also be made available prior to the opening. With four restaurants and an assortment of options, you will be well fed this fall. The difficult part will be deciding where to eat. 
New Event!!! Dinner/Dance on Monday
 
Last fall the Fair was introduced to the new Pilgrim House (fka Sage), Ever since, the owners have eagerly engaged us with ideas and options that would benefit our Fairgoers. Today we are pleased to announce the addition of a Dinner/Dance to be held on Monday, October 15th. This meal event will be a ticketed event for registered Fairgoers, and it will be a casual one (yes jeans are ok). The evening will begin at 5:30 pm with a cocktail hour upstairs at the Pilgrim House’s newly remodeled Sea Dragon Lounge. At 6:30 pm, head downstairs, where you’ll be greeted with light festive music as you enter the banquet hall. The buffet will be immediately available for your dining pleasure. The meal will consist of fresh penne, lemon pepper chicken with a choice of a caper sauce or a hearty meat sauce (or both if you want), garlic bread, mixed harvest green salad, and for dessert tiramisu. As dinner winds down, the dance floor will heat up as DJ Emerson spins contemporary and timeless tunes and takes your requests. It’ll be a hopping night at the Pilgrim and we will see you on the dance floor.
Activity Guide
In a few weeks we will be posting and sending all registered Fairgoers a copy of our brand-new Fantasia Fair Activity Guide. It’s written by Cathy, your Activity Coordinator. This booklet will showcase the many attractions in and around Provincetown. Go on your own, or, better yet, organize a group activity through our new “Let’s Go” bulletin board, which will debut this fall at Fantasia Fair 2018. We’ll soon release information on how the simple system will work and how it will help you to connect with other Fairgoers. 
Workshops needed!

We have an incredible mix of workshops planned, but we are still looking for proposals for sessions that include makeup, personal presentation, hair/wig styling, wardrobe tips etc. Other topics are open as well, including workshops on comportment, or any health-related topic would fit in nicely. Even if you have something you think might not fit, send Dee, the programming coordinator, a note at  dee@fantasiafair.org to discuss. Space and time are running short, so if you are interested in presenting a workshop, please reach out as soon as possible.
Final Keynote Speaker Announced!

Saturday's keynote speaker will be a familiar face to many. The planning committee is pleased to announce Certified Life Coach and Motivational Speaker Tony Ferraiolo. Tony will round out the keynote slate for 2018. Come and hear Tony, as he will inspire you to be all you can be and offer encouragement on “Creating Yourself.” This is a keynote you don’t want to miss.

Pioneer Award Banquet & Auction!

A Fall harvest theme has been selected for the annual Pioneer Award Banquet. On Tuesday night, October 16th, the Crown & Anchor will be decorated under the direction of longtime friend of the Fair, Hera Navassardian. Feel free to don your Fall fashions, jeans, boots, overalls, plaid shirts, or anything that is simple and indicative of a New England Fall harvest. The night will also include an auction where you’ll have an opportunity to win some fabulous prizes, with all contributions supporting the scholarship fund.




Recognition awards and charms
have been ordered! 


 



An annual tradition for the fair has been to recognize participants’ service to the Fair and for going above and beyond in helping to make the Fair special for all. Four participant recognitions are awarded at the Saturday Gala Banquet and presented by the previous year's recipients. This year's awards are being manufacturing with a bit of a facelift, as described below.

The Most Helpful Award, as voted by the planning committee, will be the traditional round pendant with a bronze metal color. The 2017 recipient was Maddie Marquardt.

The Congeniality Award, as voted by you, the Fairgoer, at lunch on Saturday, will be the same traditional round pendant, but with a silver metal color. The 2017 recipient was Nick Greiner.

The Fantasia Fair Lifetime Achievement Award, as voted by the planning committee, will be the same traditional round pendant, but with a gold metal color. 

The Fantasia Fair Award, our highest recognition, is voted by prior winners of the award. The award itself has been redesigned. The design is reverting to its roots as a square pendant with a gold metal color. Co-recipients from 2017 were Karen Jandro and Temperance DuWitt.

We also placed our order for this year’s charm, which easily can be converted to a pin. All attendees will receive one at registration. The design for this year is pictured above, is a colorful rendition of a transgender symbol set into the heart of the Fantasia Fair logo. If you look at the design a certain way. it may appear you are being smiled at. That’s not by accident, because you are! We hope that when you look at it in years to come, it will conjure up smiles and thoughts of a memorable 2018 Fantasia Fair.
