This Week at The Winnipesaukee Playhouse
Tuesday, February 10th at 7:30pm :
Actors Studio / Bardavon production of
Rhapsody in Black

Written and Performed by LeLand Gantt
Directorial Consultant Estelle Parsons

Written and performed by LeLand Gantt and developed at NYC’s Actors Studio by Oscar winner Estelle Parsons, Rhapsody in Black is a one man show that explores Gantt’s personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America.

We follow his spellbinding life story -- from an underprivileged childhood in the ghettos of McKeesport, PA to teenage experiments with crime and drugs to scholastic achievement and an acting career that lands adult LeLand in situations where he is virtually the only African-American in the room. “Charming, self-deprecatingly funny and linguistically awesome.” HuffPost

Saturday, February 14th and 2pm and Sunday, February 15th at 6:30pm:

Baby the Musical, By Sybille Pearson, Richard Maltby Jr, and David Shire

On Saturday February 14th at 2 pm and Sunday February 15th at 6:30 pm the Winni Players will be holding auditions for the Maltby/Shire musical Baby, directed by Bryan Halperin with music direction by Judy Hayward and choreography by Jenna Rogato.

Is there anything more exciting, frightening and utterly transformational than impending parenthood? Baby, the musical from acclaimed duo Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire examines how three couples on a university campus at different stages of life deal with the painful, rewarding and agonizingly funny consequences of the universal experience of pregnancy and upcoming parenthood.

Auditioners should prepare a musical theatre song of their choosing and bring sheet music to auditions.  All readings will be from the script.  Auditions are open to actors ages 18+.  For the 6 leads we are looking for dynamic performers equally comfortable with singing and dramatic acting as the believable relationships of the couples in their scenes are critical to the success of the production.  The ensemble will consist of performers of all ages to play the various doctors, nurses, real estate agents, college professors, college students, etc that complete the cast of Baby.  Actors of all levels of experience and ability are encouraged to attend.

Please email if you know in advance which audition session you will be attending. Actors should arrive on time to fill out an audition form and attend a short meeting about the auditions and the show before auditions begin.  Callbacks, if needed, will be Tuesday February 17th at 6:30 pm.

Rehearsals will begin March 3rd and will generally be Saturdays from 1:30-5:30 pm, Sundays from 6:30-9 pm, and Tuesdays from 6:30-9pm.  As of April 21 rehearsal schedule will change to Sundays 1:30-5:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-9pm.  Performances will be May 7-10, 2015.  Not all actors will be needed at all rehearsals.
In Rehearsal this Week...
This building is always buzzing!  While all that is happening, two other productions are now in rehearsal:
Sylvia by A.R. Gurney

Rehearsals with the professional company are well underway on this romantic comedy about a woman, her husband… and his dog!

Empty nesters Greg and Kate have moved back to Manhattan after twenty-two years in the suburbs. When Greg finds a street-smart lab/poodle mix and brings her home, she promptly becomes a bone of contention between Greg and Kate, testing their marriage to hilarious and touching effect. Last seen on our stage in 2006, it’s so funny patrons have been barking for more!

The production is directed by Clayton Phillips and features summer season favorites Richard Brundage and Donna Schilke as Greg and Kate.  Versee Damien Carter, last seen in the Winni Players' production of Of Mice and Men, does triple duty in three unique roles.  Rachel Broadwell makes her Playhouse debut as Sylvia.

This production runs one weekend only - February 19-22 - and early reservations are strongly encouraged!  A huge thank you to our production sponsor, Kovio's K-9.

Meanwhile, fifteen students are hard at work rehearsing the Education Department's production of Treasure Island!  Timothy L'Ecuyer's production will feature punk rock pirates who will take to the stage on March 20-22.
