Forward to Friend
Opens this Friday!
You’ll be excused if you think you’re seeing 6ft tall white rabbits lurking in the trees as your drive off our wooded campus this Fall.  After all, Elwood P. Dowd may just have convinced you that his friend, Harvey, really exists.  Dowd, his social-climbing sister Veta, and an array of hapless medical professionals are just a handful of the characters who inhabit the world of Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Harvey.  This classic comedy will be presented by the Winni Players Community Theatre Group on November 8-10 and 15-17.

Harvey, which premiered on Broadway in 1944 and was made into a film starring James Stewart in 1950, was most recently revived on Broadway in 2012 when it featured The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons.

Elwood P. Dowd is an affable man who claims to have an unseen (and presumably imaginary) friend Harvey — whom Elwood describes as a six-foot, three-and-one-half-inch tall “pooka” resembling a rabbit. Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets. His sister, Veta, increasingly finds his eccentric behavior embarrassing. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her and her daughter Myrtle Mae from future embarrassment.  Those circumstances only begin the comedy as mistakes and mix-ups at the sanitarium cause even more upheaval.

Director Charles Fray helms a cast of Winni Players regulars including Diane Nickerson, Maggie Roberts, Bryan Halperin, Michael Baker, Meredith Imbimbo, John Wade, Lynn Dadian, John Piquado and Barbara Webb.  New cast members include Jim Mernin and Stephen Copithorne.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.  Tickets cost $18 for orchestra and $10 for balcony and are available at or (603) 279-0333.
Magic Foods will be performing their food magic before each performance of Harvey.  Stop in up to an hour and a half before showtime for warming Fall fare (soups, chili, snacks and drinks).
We were delighted to be presented with the 2013 Community Pride award by the
Meredith Area Chamber of Commerce at their annual meeting.
