Opens on Wednesday!

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds moving into their fifth-floor walkup apartment. Adjusting to married life soon becomes complicated by a leaking skylight, the appearance of her mother, an eccentric neighbor, and all those stairs!  Will solving their problems be as simple as taking a barefooted walk in the park? Barefoot in the Park, Neil Simon’s light-hearted romance between a straight-laced lawyer and an impetuous free spirit begins where most romantic comedies end – with the marriage!  It runs from July 17th to 27th

After a six-day honeymoon, Corie and Paul move into their apartment and find that it is not furnished, painted incorrectly, and is up six flights of stairs!  Set in New York City in the early 1960s, this couple learn to live as a "couple" while facing the usual daily ups-and-downs in Barefoot in the Park. This is Neil Simon's longest-running hit, and the tenth longest-running non-musical play in Broadway history and was nominated for three 1964 Tony Awards.

We are excited to have Playhouse veterans Alex Jacobs, Richard Brundage, Jonathan Weber and Donna Schilke in this play and welcome Julie Ek in her Playhouse debut.  A rotating list of “local celebrities” will make guest appearances in the cameo role of the Delivery Man!  The play is directed by NH Theatre Award-winning director, Bryan Halperin.

According to Bryan, "It's easy to see why Barefoot in the Park was Neil Simon's longest running Broadway play.  The classic "opposites attract" scenario mixed with Simon's signature wit makes for a perfect summer evening - plenty of laughs and the chance to experience or reminisce about young love.  Throw in a terrific cast and Barefoot will be a summer night to remember!"

Barefoot in the Park is the third play of our summer season. Pre-show dinners are available at the lobby bar and catered by Magic Foods Restaurant Group, the owners of Canoe in Center Harbor and O Steak and Seafood in Laconia.  On selected nights, free pre-show entertainment is available at the outdoor amphitheatre beginning at 6:45pm.

Performances are Mondays through Saturdays at 7:30pm with a matinee at 2pm on Monday. The Wednesday, July 24th performance will include a post-show discussion and Q & A with the cast and crew. Tickets are $27 for seating in the orchestra, $22 for seating in the first row of the balcony and $15 for seating in the second row in the balcony. Tickets can be ordered by calling (603) 279-0333 or by using a credit card at www.winniplayhouse.org.

Look at What our Teen Interns Have Been up to!
Teen interns Amy, Katie, Sam, Kevin and Jen have made a big impression on the Playhouse since their first day last Monday! They have been hard at work around the Playhouse doing things like helping load-in the Barefoot in the Park set, painting the set and building flats for the ceiling. They have been sitting in on the Barefoot rehearsals and also have their own production coming up of Snow White. Amy is playing Snow White, Katie is playing the Huntsman and the King, Sam is the Evil Queen, Kevin is Doc and the Mirror and Jen plays six dwarfs and is also the stage manager. Jen has returned to the Playhouse where she started as one of our Youth Ensemble members in 2005, Katie has returned for her second summer and the rest of the teen interns are excited to be here for their first year! The interns have made their own impression on the script and have edited the script from a dark story to a comical, kid-friendly production. They have also been working with the summer camp program kids and have helped pull props and costumes for them. Director Kevin Killavey has nothing but praise for the interns saying, "The kids are extremely professional and have incredibly quick wit."  Most of the interns aspire to be in musical theatre professionally when they get older and we wish them well!

SUMMER CAMP UNDERWAY!

Our Week 1 Elementary-aged campers had a blast going on a Forest Expedition! They created their own plays, danced like Bigfoot, created HUGE monster feet and made fairy houses with materials found on our campus.  Tweens used the Forest as the jumping off point for creating their own unique play. They also got crafty, designing their own costumes and sets!

Currently there is space available for all camp weeks, but we do recommend applying to camp as soon as possible as spaces do often fill up at the last minute! To register for camp, go to
http://www.winniplayhouse.org/theatre-camps.html.
