To Bee, or Not To Bee... Entertained!
Nine local students will sing, dance, act, and spell their way through the popular modern musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee from October 2nd through 4th.   Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The show is a hilarious, Tony Award-winning musical that follows six over-achieving and awkward adolescents on their quest for the spelling championship of a lifetime.  Overseen by adults still stuck in adolescence themselves, they sing their stories, utilize unique spelling techniques, and learn that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.  At each performance, four audience volunteers are selected and invited on stage to participate in the bee, making each performance unique.

The Playhouse’s production is directed by Education Director Timothy L’Ecuyer.  It features Center Sandwich’s Diana Reidy as spelling bee champion-turned realtor-turned spelling bee host Rona Lisa Perretti.  Perretti, along with Vice Principal Panch (Gilford’s Claire Gardner), steer the six kids through the bee with the help of “comfort counsellor”/parolee Mitch Mahoney (Laconia’s Shawn Zappala).  The contestants are played by Dawson Ellis, Meredith Ellis, Jaydie Halperin, Jack Harding, Evan Lazdowski, and Kaylee Lemire.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee contains some language and references which may be inappropriate for some people. Ask at the box office for details. Tickets in the orchestra are $18 for adults and $14 for students through high school.  Balcony seats are available for $12.
