JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH
Opens this Friday!
The Winnipesaukee Playhouse’s Youth Ensemble, made up of local performers ages 8-12, will have their first opportunity to perform on our new stage when they present James and the Giant Peach on December 6-8.  Adapted by Richard R. George from the popular children’s book by Roald Dahl, this is an imaginative adaption appropriate for all ages.

When James Henry Trotter accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house! James discovers a secret entranceway into the fruit, and when he crawls inside, he meets a bunch of marvelous oversized friends – Old Green Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybug, Miss Spider, and more!  After years of feeling like an outsider in the house of his despicable aunts, James has finally found a place where he belongs. With a snip of the stem, the peach starts rolling away, and the exciting adventure begins!

The production is directed by Johanna Halperin.  First-time Playhouse performer Shawn Zappala takes on the role of James.  He is joined by 17 other young performers who come from all over the Lakes Region. The photo above shows the cast's first opportunity to stand on top of the giant peach!

Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.  Tickets cost $14 for the orchestra and $10 in the balcony and are available online at www.winnipesaukeeplayhouse.org or by calling 603-279-0333.
During all performances of James and the Giant Peach, we will be collecting canned peaches (okay, really any canned food will do!) to donate to the Meredith Emergency Food Pantry.  For every can you bring in, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a $20 gift card to Innisfree Bookshop.

Thanks for helping us to support the food pantry this holiday season.

Lights in the Village

We are thrilled to participate in the Greater Meredith Program's Lights in the Village event.  Windows of local storefronts will be decorated by participating businesses and visitors are asked to "vote" for their favorite window by donating $.25 in a container at the business.  On December 23rd, the change from each business will be counted to see who wins the popular vote for best window!  All proceeds from the voting support the
Town of Meredith's 250th Birthday Celebration Fund.

Our window was inspired by our upcoming production of James and the Giant Peach and painted by our very talented summer art teacher, Judy Nash.
The NH Theatre Awards committee has recently announced that this year's awards will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Stockbridge Theatre on the campus of Pinkerton Academy in Derry. The group rate for tickets is $30 per person. If you'd like to attend as part of The Winnipesaukee Playhouse's group, please email lesley@winniplayhouse.org for details.  The payment deadline is fast approaching, so get in touch ASAP if you'd like to come!

DEFYING GRAVITY!

A huge congratulations to Christine Dwyer, one of our acting interns from way back in 2005, on her Broadway debut as Elphaba in Wicked.

She's come a long way since Papa Gander's Twisted Tales and we are so proud of her!
