Broadway Idol is Back

Sixteen contestants, three judges, and some great showtunes will make for an exciting evening when The Winnipesaukee Playhouse hosts its second annual Broadway Idol musical theatre competition fundraiser.

Styled after American Idol, the event asks teens and adults to sing for the title of Broadway Idol.  The contestants, all non-professional singers, will be tasked with wowing not only the judges but the audience, as the audience will get to choose their favorite performances by purchasing “votes”.  After each performance, the judges will give feedback to the singer, hopefully not in the style of Simon Cowell!

At the end of the evening, prizes will be awarded for the “judge’s prize” and “popular vote” in both the adult and teen categories.  The Teen Idol prizes include a $50 gift card to Tanger Outlets, a pair of tickets to the Capital Center for the Arts AND the guarantee of a part in our upcoming production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The Adult Idol prizes include a voucher good for two tickets to Meadowbrook for their 2015 Eastern Propane Concert Series and a $50 Magic Foods Gift Card ("O" Steak and Seafood in Laconia or Concord and Canoe in Center Harbor).

The event takes place on Saturday, September 27th at 7pm. Tickets are now on sale and cost $10. Last year’s event was very well attended and patrons are urged to purchase tickets in advance at or by calling 279-0333. Raffle ticket “votes” will be available at the event for $1 per ticket or 12 for $10.

Fall is here and tickets are now on sale for some fantastic upcoming events:
October 24th and 25th
A Winni Players Radio Play

One of the most popular sci-fi thrillers of the World War II years, Donovan's Brain shares the harrowing story of Dr. Patrick Cory's vaulting ambition to conquer nature and experiment with a mechanical soul.  "Where does life begin and where does it end?" he writes in his casebook.  "In the eyes of the world, Donovan is dead, but his brain lives on.  Does that mean Donovan is still alive?"  Much like Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Cory (originally played by Orson Wells) falls victim to his experiment and must contend with the deadly consequences as the brain's power grows more and more sinister.  Adapted from the popular radio program, Suspense, this production will focus on radio theater as a unique style of story telling, and will appeal to those interested in World War II, science fiction, and unique theater experiences.  And with Halloween creeping closer, it is a tale well calculated to keep you in ... Suspense!
November 13th-16th
A Winni Players Production

It's the mid-1960s and paranoia and Cold War antics run rampant! The American Ambassador has left the Embassy on business and places his incompetent son Axel Magee in charge. Immediately, the Embassy is thrust into a crisis as the Hollanders, an American family on vacation, come rushing into the Embassy on the run from the Communist Secret Police.  Walter Hollander, the father, has accidentally wandered into a high security area and taken pictures, causing the communists to believe that the family are spies. Axel digs the hole deeper and the embassy is surrounded, leaving the Hollanders trapped!

EIGHT WEEK CLASSES for students age 5-18
and DROP-IN WORKSHOPS for teens and adults this fall/winter.

The following classes follow the summer camp model!

Theatre Workshops 1 and 2: Guided by an experienced teacher, students will use games, improvisation, movement, and story telling to create an original theatre piece based on a theme.  Themes vary, but have included fairy tales, Arctic adventures, space exploration, King Arthur, and more!  These class celebrates, encourages and teaches student to build on their own natural creativity and energy.  The classes are offered in similar age groups (5-7 and 8-11) as camp.
Art: From Stage to Page: This early introduction to theatrical design will get students involved in hands-on projects inspired by plays and other forms of storytelling.  Based on the art component of the Winnipesaukee Playhouse’s popular summer cam program, students in this course will learn about (by working in) a variety of different artistic mediums which may include acrylic and watercolor paints, pen and ink, clay, plaster, pencil, chalk, and more.  They will use the inspirations found in stories, the works of renowned artists, and the world around them to fuel their own imaginations and create original works of art suitable for display in home “galleries” after the conclusion of the course.
Students enrolling in these classes will be working with familiar faces!
Theatre Workshop 1 is taught by "Miss Patte" Sarausky and Art is taught by
"Miss Aimee" Piccolo!
We are offering several more classes including an Introduction to Theatre class for homeschoolers, a book-club style Pulitzer Prize Play Reading Group, improv workshops and improv jams.  TONS more information is available BY CLICKING HERE!
