After years of working with some of the most prestigious wineries in the area, Lance wanted to take his winemaking skills in his own, creative, direction. This historic farm was originally named Vondeling, and its wines were given that name when the estate was bought by Julian Johnsen, Anthony Ward, and Richard Gower in 2001. The farm has a three-centuries-old winemaking tradition dating back to the early 1700’s. On the highest peak of Vondeling farm lies a piece of heritage. One of the Cape’s original signal cannons rests where it was once used to communicate to farmers that a ship had arrived in Cape Town’s Table Bay harbor. Farmers would then hasten to the docks to trade their wares, swop stories and receive mail. In recognition of these brave pioneer farmers, the Estate has named this wine after this symbol of their era.
