Greetings everyone on this beautiful Spring Day!
It's not quite the full moon (coming this Tuesday) but I thought I'd send this month's newsletter out a little early in case anyone would like to catch the special Kundalini Yoga class tomorrow at Hemma (details below).  Please invite your friends if you think they may be interested in experiencing Kundalini Yoga!
In this newsletter I continue to share some of the teachings on the Expressive Self that we've been exploring in class over the past three weeks and weeks to come. As always, I enjoy hearing your feedback, questions, and experiences!
Next Thursday (April 17th) I'll have a beautiful teacher subbing Kundalini class for me (as I will be participating in Sat Nam Fest in Joshua Tree CA); therefore that class will be a pause from the 21 Stages of Meditation.

Kundalini Yoga: Deepening the Foundation
Saturday April 12th, 1:00 - 3:30 at Hemma

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a beautiful science and technology that systematically and safely raises Kundalini – the energy of Awakening. This class will explain and bring you through all the essential components of a Kundalini Yoga class. We will start by tuning in and deepening into the meaning and sound current of the Adi Mantra and Mangala Charan Mantra. We will practice the Breath of Fire with Lion’s Paws to reset the brain’s electromagnetic field, followed by a pranayama to develop the Caliber for Constant Self-Authority. We will then flow through a strong 60 minute Kriya used for daily Sadhana, followed by a full relaxing Savasana. We will end with a 31 minute mantra meditation, called the Kabadshe Meditation. This mantra is a sensitizing meditation which opens the chakras to receive the inner sound current. Come discover and deepen into the practice of Kundalini Yoga – all levels welcome.

The 21 Stages of Meditation
In Kundalini Yoga class, we have been going through the 21 Stages of Meditation as taught by Yogi Bhajan. We are in the middle of The Expressive Self which comprises the second 7-week journey of the 21 stages. Here are a few more notes from 'along the way' (quotes from "The 21 Stages of Meditation" by Gurucharan Singh Khalsa):
The Expressive Self (the second journey)
Stage 1: Rasa

Rasa is our essence, our amrit, our nectar - it is what makes life juicy. When our rasa is flowing and in harmony, it becomes rasayana, and we are self-rejuvenating and self-healing. Our radiance induces a state of self-adjustment in ourselves and others.
"Once this inner aliveness and purification are established, we can use our own inner rasa to heal others…our creative presence will heal; our radiant energy will uplift."
Rasayana is generated from meditations and kriyas that stimulate our glandular and cellular secretions, encourage optimal functioning of the pituitary, pineal, hypothalamus and frontal lobe, and raise the vitality of our cellular and nervous functions.
Rasa opens us to the delight of life, and to spiritual insight. "With amrit flowing we naturally feel and act from compassion; we don't talk about it, we live it."

Stage 2: Delight
"In delight you enjoy your own pleasure. It is a rapture that holds your attention without effort….Your mind is aware and enjoys its own awareness."
This stage of meditation is about how we attend to pleasure in life, and our ability to savour our experiences in all their subtlety. We manifest joy from within, and our joy is not dependent on external stimuli.

"We experience delight as we recognize the creativity of the Self in every action and in the actions of the Universe."
The experience of delight naturally brings more discipline because we increasingly align our consciousness with what we do.
Our ability to attend to the flow of life, our creativity, and destiny is stabilized
Stage 3: Politeness
In this stage we sense the consequences and implications of every action, and we realize that politeness comes from a deep respect for our Self.
"We become gracious and committed to what we do. We act with politeness, which is supported by authentic direct communication."

Politeness is conscious communication and a discerning consciousness.
We are polite because we are real, because we maintain self-sufficiency and self-satisfaction, and because we are secure in our realized identity.
"We act with integrity despite the outcome, and we handle any gain or loss with grace."
"This strength we acquire at this stage lets us speak truthfully with confidence and kindness."
In this stage we can fully commit our Self in action, relationship, or discipline and we embody a nonreactive stance.

Stage 4: Humility
"Humility's gentle expansiveness and graceful receptivity is the vehicle to see the unseen. It gives us the capacity to open up to our intuition."
Humility moves us beyond the limits of our imagination. Humility experiences the awe of infinity and perceives the subtle. It is an openness to what is, and allows us to merge.
"Humility comes from putting the infinite above any status."
We realize that we all come from the unknown and go to the unknown; we surrender our finite sense of Self to the Infinite.  

Humility allows wisdom to guide our life instead of intellectual positions or ideologies which disconnect us from one another.
"We become still in the face of awe; we delight in the free fall of the unknown, which restores our innocence and renews our courage. We are enraptured."

Whatever your meditation practice is, these are some of the fruits that arrive along the way.  Springtime is a beautiful time to let your Rasa flow, S-a-v-o-u-r Life, and tune into your Delight: the Light of being You.

Extended Meditation for the second journey: The Expressive Self
I am offering a special 2-hour class ($15.00/person, 8 people max) in my home for those who wish to experience the fuller length meditation sequence which culminates the seven-week journey of The Expressive Self.  I am thinking of Sunday morning or evening May 25th, or Tuesday evening May 27th.  Please let me know if you're interested and what day/times would work for you and I'll do my best to co-ordinate.
