In this month's issue don't miss
  • The Building Futures Group discuss the EU
  • Save the date for our 10th Birthday Party
  • The No Naked Walls Gallery supports halow
It's been an exciting month for A Reason to Get Up!
Since supporting halow through the Community Matters Scheme, Waitrose Guildford has been very kind in offering many opportunities for our young people. This month the Garden Group were employed to plan and replant a colourful flowerbed outside the store. A wonderful opportunity!
The Crafty Creations group from the A Reason to Get Up service had a brilliant opportunity in having their own workshop at Daisyfest. Their Selfie Mask Making workshop was fully booked and a great success. Find out more about Daisyfest in a fun video created by young people here

The EU Referendum has become a complicated topic in the last few months so we were delighted to welcome Mencap Campaigns Officer Eve Jackson to give a session on all things EU. The Building Futures Group worked together in tasks to help make their decision in the big vote. Read more
halow has been White Stuff Guildford's local charity partner for a number of years and the staff are always arranging great fundraising activities. Earlier this year shoppers were invited to send in their best sewing patch designs in the Are You Thready challenge and more recently they have put on  a fabulous bake sale. Thank you White Stuff for your continued support.
Volunteers Week took place this month and we celebrated our volunteers on our Facebook and Twitter page.  The IT Crowd from A Reason to Get Up are now creating an e-card to thank all halow volunteers. Click here to see their 'Thank You halow Volunteers' video from Volunteers Week 2015.

My halow story
"I joined Building Futures in September 2015 and I am really enjoying it. I like thinking about my future, life skills, becoming a better person, helping me to look for a job, being with friends, being understood and fantastic staff. I have also  started getting the bus home independently. It is great for me to be more independent and great for my mum who doesn't have to be there all the time. I don’t know what I would do without Building Futures. I love it. Without it I would probably just be at home doing nothing”

The Social Activities half term round up
Young people taking part in Social Activities have taken full advantage of half term this month. They went to Normandy Gardens, where they made bird feeders out of milk bottles and planted beans, marigolds and peas. At the always popular Haslemere Workshop, young people had the chance to try out a fun dance class and enjoyed a summer BBQ. They also went to Chessington World of Adventures, where they had the opportunity to try out over 40 rides and attractions. Young people had the chance to see the animals in the zoo and Sea Life centre, as well as go on rides such as Vampire and Kobra. All in all a very fun day! If you would like to refer a young person click here. To see a sample timetable click here
Save the date for halow's 10th Birthday Party
This year the halow project is celebrating a momentous  occasion. It’s our 10th birthday! We will be having a very special party on Sunday 4th September to celebrate. It will be a garden party with live music, games, entertainment and lots of celebrating. We welcome all halow supporters and we would particularly like families to join us. There will be more details to follow- please save the date!
We are extremely privileged to be benefitting from a very special exhibition of David Dipnall’s award winning landscape paintings at The No Naked Walls Gallery, Bramley. The exhibition runs until 25th of June, it's not one to miss.
Keep up to date with Damon Hill OBE through his Twitter! Our Patron has become very active on the social media site and was tweeting all the way through the halow250. Find his page here

In the next few months we are opening two more shared houses in the Guildford and Cranleigh area for two groups of young ladies ready to make the move. Therefore, we are urgently looking for Supported Living halow Buddies to provide personalised support to young people with a learning disability, within their own home. Could this be you? If you are interested in this role please click here
