Yvonne's Message:
Our young people have had some amazing adventures over the summer, as individuals, on group holidays and on outward bounds activities with our team. Well done to all our young people on all your achievements! As we look to September and the new term, Building Futures will see a new cohort of young people taking part and we have a new schedule of Social Activities for you all.
Enjoy our update. We hope to see you soon.

Yvonne Hignell, Director.

Welcome to our monthly newsletter keeping you up to date with news and events about halow.

The halow project supports young adults with a learning disability to live the life they choose as independently as possible. Giving our young people a voice and a choice about their futures.

Duke's Barn residential trip
On Monday 11th August, an intrepid group of 10 halow young people and 6 volunteers ventured to Duke's Barn. The outdoor activity centre is situated in the heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park. Over the 4 day trip there was something for everybody as they went weaseling, canoeing, stream scrambling and tackled the high-rise rope course! Thank you to the staff and volunteers for helping out on this wonderful social activity, we couldn't do it without you. Well done to all of the young people who took part in the activities and overcame some tough physical challenges. Huge thanks to the staff of Duke's Barn for their support. We all had a truly fantastic time. We hope to plan more residential activities similar to this for the summer of 2015.

halow care- Supported Living Update
August has been a busy month for halow care as Buddies support young people with various activities, as individuals, on group holidays and the recent Duke’s Barn trip. We have been busy working with young people and families to open two new houses with our Supported Living service. This is a complicated and time consuming process with lots of people working together to make it happen. However, we are delighted that we now have a total of three houses in Surrey where halow is supporting young people to live independently. We would like to say thank you to everyone involved in the process and good luck to the young people who are taking such a big step in their lives!  We are developing an information sheet for families and young people on the steps involved in Supported Living. If you would be interested in learning more please contact Lucy C
New Social Activities
We have a new look schedule for Social Activities, with more for the 16 -19 year olds including Friday Youth Club, Boccia and an extra Bowling night! There is lots more information on our website  Please contact the Social Activities Team for more information and to reserve your place.
My halow story
One young person told us about attending Guilfest with A Reason To Get Up. This programme provides work like experience for young people. “I do the IT Crowd and Crafty Creations and enjoyed making and selling crafty things at Guilfest, wearing our festival flowers and dancing to the music. I write blogs on what we do and for Guilfest we made a blog and video about the day – it was so much fun!”
Thank you Cheeky Blogger! Check here for updates.
Llama Trekking with NCS The Challenge
The Challenge, provides an opportunity for 15-17 year olds to improve their life & work skills through working with local charities and exciting activities. The group spent a day volunteering and supporting halow young people on the very popular social activity Llama trekking at Surrey Hill's Llamas. The group also raised money for halow, we would like to thank everyone involved in the partnership, it was a brilliant success.
