Yvonne's Message:
I hope you are enjoying the glorious summer we are having. Lots of activity this month again - perfect weather for picnics and festivals and for getting out and about to spread the word about halow. It was lovely to see all our graduates of Building Futures and their families at the picnic. I hope you enjoy July’s update – if you haven’t already, do sign up for one of our activities or events!

Yvonne Hignell, Director.

Welcome to our monthly newsletter keeping you up to date with news and events about halow.

The halow project supports young adults with a learning disability to live the life they choose as independently as possible. Giving our young people a voice and a choice about their futures.

What a great day for a halow picnic
Last week the halow team headed down to Shalford Park to soak up the sun and celebrate the graduation of the 2014 Building Futures Group. It was a brilliant afternoon, the sun was shining and everyone had a great time meeting each other playing football and parachute games. Congratulations and good luck to the Building Futures Group who have successfully completed their course. We are sad to see them go but hope they will join us for social activities, volunteering and A Reason To Get Up. Thank you to Maison Blanc who donated beautiful tarts, to everyone who brought in a cake, to The Joint for the yummy ham and to Heal’s for the beautiful bunting. If you would like to know more about the Building Futures service at halow please contact Sara.

We had a great time at Alton Towers last month.
An incredible weekend of thrill seeking, swimming, laughing, rollercoasters, singing and dancing, was enjoyed by halow young people and staff. “I had an awesome weekend, I didn't want it to end” commented one young person.
My halow story
One young person told us about a project, he and his halow Buddy are working on. This is part of developing life skills and focusing on talents and interests, “I am really enjoying making a cook book with my Buddy. We try out recipes, take pictures of the food and write out the instructions. I like cooking and I like using my iPad. I think it looks really good and we have lots of recipes now!”
We can’t wait to see the finished book!

Thank you to everyone who made our third Damon Hill Karting Challenge so successful, especially our sponsor Infinity Media and everyone who took part in the race. You raised over £17,000 – just incredible. Teams faced some fierce competition from Damon and his All Star team, while some of our young people were able to test drive new karts on the fast paced Daytona track. We are looking forward to 2015 event, if you would like more information contact Ann
