We started as a few residents who had enough, unwilling to accept living in degraded conditions and being ignored. We decided to stand up, speak out and demand change.
From a few concerned residents, we grew to an organization of many concerned residents. We have volunteered countless hours and personal resources to help effect change and make a difference in the lives of residents living on the Lower East Side. We are motivated by the understanding that everyone is entitled to live in safe, healthy, sanitary, and respectful communities with economic and retail diversity.
We have had some success but there is a lot more for us to do, so we will continue to fight hard for the neighborhood we love, the community we believe in, and the place we call home. We will continue fighting until we live in the neighborhood we are entitled to and deserve.
Please continue to stand with us as we change our neighborhood from a lawless, anything-goes entertainment zone into a livable community where businesses are not in direct conflict with a resident's quality of life. We believe that when there is an adequate system of checks and balances in place, along with proper foresight and responsible city planning residents and businesses can harmoniously co-exist, resulting in resilient communities where a fair balance is struck between preservation and development, and community need and growth; and where economic and cultural diversity exists.
All the success we have had is because we are doing this as a community. By refusing to accept our conditions as a fait accompli and pushing back, positive change is afoot. Your support is immeasurable, so keep fighting alongside us and let's keep changing things for the better for our community.
