News and updates from Little Theatre Company - October 2013

Are you ready for Sweeney Todd?

It's just a few weeks now until Little Theatre Company brings Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd, to The Brewhouse for the first time.

You may know this dramatic show from the stage version - starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton - or perhaps you have seen the film starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter?

Maybe you are new to this story of murder and revenge in the backstreets of Victorian London?

Laced with dark humour, dazzling wit and an infectious score, Sondheim's musical thriller has been hailed as "a masterwork" and "wickedly funny".

The show runs from Monday November 11 to Saturday November 16 with performances at 7.30pm each night. There is also a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday. Tickets are £10 for adults with £8 concessions available Monday to Wednesday only. All matinee tickets are £8.

Book in person at the Brewhouse box office, or by ringing them on 01283 508100. You can also book online (no booking fee) at http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/littletheatreco

A Tom-Tom reunion

Back in the early days of LTC Youth there were three Toms: 'Big Tom' (Tom Powis), 'Middle Tom' (Tom Dent) and 'Little Tom' (Tom Pritchard).
There was a reunion of Big Tom and Little Tom when the former went to see the latter in Kes at Derby Theatre.
Tom Powis - now a theatre producer and tour booker - climbs Kilimanjaro this month for charities Headway and MIND. You can still sponsor him here.

Tom Dent sings at the NEC

Tom Dent sang at the NEC in Birmingham recently after reaching the regional finals of the Open Mic UK competition.

Congratulations Tom for getting so far in what is the biggest UK music competition for singers and solo artists.

Thanks to brother Jack for this great picture of Tom in the spotlight.

Introducing Joseph Bancroft....

Joseph Bancroft
Welcome to the world - and the LTC family - Joseph Albert Bancroft.

Joe is the first child of Tilley and Matt Bancroft and was born on August 10 weighing 9lbs 9oz. Lots of love to you all.

Sophie meets the stars of Les Mis

Sophie Towns had the pleasure of meeting the current West End Les Mis stars Niall Sheehy (Enjolras) and Carrie Fletcher (Eponine) at a recent Les Mis versus Phantom football match.

She also had great fun filming the opening credits to the Xtra Factor - which you can see on YouTube here.

Sophie recently started her 2nd year studying musical theatre at the London College of Music, and played Anita in our extracts from Dinnerladies at last month's patrons' evenings.

Welcome to two new corporate patrons

Two new local businesses have recently signed up as Corporate Patrons of LTC.

They are Burton web development agency, Webb2b Burton Limited and Mini-Marquee Hire Burton-on-Trent.

Ian Page, of Webb2b, works hard to help local businesses grow and develop. He's behind the #loveburton hour on Twitter every Thursday between 8pm and 9pm. He is also Chair of Burton Business Club.

Mini-Marquee Hire rent out mini marquees and gazebos, plus a host of accessories, for events, fairs and parties across Staffordshire and South Derbyshire.

We are very grateful for their support - and the support of all our patrons.

Thanks also to Lesley Mason of The Mug Tug and Pete Banton of Socket2M who have recently renewed their corporate patronage.

If you are looking for a fun activity with the family over half term - remember The Mug Tug will be open every day of the October half term at Barton Marina where you can paint fantastic gifts - ideal to put aside for Christmas!

You can find the pages for all our current corporate patrons here - http://www.little-theatre.co.uk/content/patrons.php. Just click on the company name, or its logo, to read more.

If you know a company that would like to support Little Theatre Company for a donation of just £25 a year, please forward this email to them and ask them to contact elaine@little-theatre.co.uk for more information.

Farewell - for now

We have said a sad goodbye for now to a number of LTC Youth members who have moved away to study.

But we hope it's just a temporary goodbye and we look forward to seeing them when they return for the holidays.

Goodbye and good luck to Fiona Waite, Sam Pearson, Edward Robinson
Jessica Hickman and Ellenora White.

Well done Team Ratcliffe

Team Ratcliffe have been at it again - raising funds for cancer research, this time with a muddy 5k obstacle course at Clumber Park..

After completing the Race for Life in Loughborough earlier in the summer they have now raised some £900 through the two events.

Congratulations to Georga Ratcliffe, Gemma Bull, Sophie Towns and Heather Ratcliffe.

The Dents build an aviary

We all know about David Dent's construction skills - he's invaluable when it comes to helping with set building and construction for Little Theatre.

Recently, he turned his hand to a different project - helped by sons Jack and Tom. The Dents aviary

Jack explained: "My fiancé Sarah has got two aviaries in her garden in Telford, and so when I came back to Burton I just missed not hearing them in a morning.

"So, as a family we decided to build our own aviary! Me, Tom and Dad all got hands-on with the build. It took us four weekends to complete and is now home to 13 birds. Possibly more to come!

"They still need names, so any suggestions would be great!"
