Coming up in 2016

An exciting new year for us and our audiences

We hope that you managed to see The Flint Street Nativity and that this deeply daft comedy got you in the mood for Christmas.
Flint Street Nov 2015

We're now rehearsing for the first two productions of 2016, which because Easter falls early BOTH take place in March.

Ticket forms will be sent out to all our patrons in the coming days - they benefit from reserved priority seating - and booking for the remaining seats will be available from the Brewhouse box office this month.

Bouncers by Little Theatre CompanyOur adult company will be performing the John Godber hit comedy Bouncers from Tuesday March 8 to Saturday March 12 at 7.30pm each night, plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Bouncers has been one of the most consistently popular and most-often performed plays of the last 30 years. It's still as fresh and funny as ever as it chronicles a typical night out through the eyes of four men on the door of a club. They bring us all the characters - the boys out on the pull, the girls out on the town, the slightly seedy club DJ and many more. It's bound to be a night to remember - and you'll laugh until they throw you out.

Phanton of the Opera by LTC YouthJust over two weeks later it's the turn of our talented youth company to bring you the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of The Opera.

We are thrilled to be able to bring this magical, powerful, haunting love story to the stage in Burton and give local audiences a chance to revel in fantastic songs such as Think of Me, All I Ask Of You, The Music Of The Night and Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.

The main part of the story takes place in Paris in the 1880s when a young singer gets her chance in the spotlight, thanks to a mysterious and sinister mentor who brings havoc and terror to the Opera House when anyone attempts to thwart his plans for her.

The Phantom of the Opera runs for just FIVE performances, due to licensing restrictions and so we urge you to book your tickets as soon as possible, It will run from Tuesday March 29 (straight after the Easter weekend) until Saturday April 2 at 7.30pm each night. Please note, there are no matinee performances of this show.

Our programme for the rest of 2016 is also set. In June we will be performing the Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing, and our November musical will be Monty Python's Spamalot - another first for Burton audiences that we are excited to be bringing to the town. We'll have more information for you about these two shows in our February newsletter.

Introducing Mr & Mrs Dent

Congratulations to the happy couple

Jack and Sarah Dent

We're sending all our love and congratulations to Sarah Robinson and Jack Dent - who became Mr and Mrs Dent this summer. But details had to be kept under wraps until their wedding was screened as an episode of the BBC show Don't Tell The Bride at the start of November.

Jack, who has been performing with Little Theatre Company since 2004 when he had the title role in our production of the  musical Oliver!, met Sarah in 2011 when they were on holiday with their respective families.

As Jack now works as a professional magician he had some special tricks up his sleeve to make their wedding day memorable when Sarah gave him free rein to organise their big day without letting her in on any of the details.

The couple's wedding included a dramatic illusion where Jack floated his new bride in mid-air as well as a colourful variety show featuring celebrity lookalikes and performers close to the couples' hearts.

Adam returns from aid mission

Help still needed for desperate refugees

On Saturday November 14, Burton man and former LTC member Adam Bates flew out to Greece for two weeks to do his bit to help thousands of refugee families who have fled the horror of war zones.

Although he and a friend were paying for their own flights and expenses, he did start an online appeal hoping to raise £250 so that when they arrived they could hire a car to get help to where it was most needed.

In the two weeks that followed, Adam diaried all he did, the tragedies he witnessed, and the heart-warming acts of bravery and compassion he saw in compelling reports on Facebook. You can still read these and watch videos here on his profile page. Donations have kept flooding in to Adam's charity page and so far more than £3,600 has been raised towards a new total of £4,000. This money is being spent directly on helping families, many of whom have spent all their money risking their lives to escape in boats across perilous seas with babies, children and elderly relatives to escape the bombs and the bullets. They are desperate for food, clothes, medical aid and blankets and tents for shelter when they arrive soaking wet and scared on the island of Lesvos. As winter arrives the situation is only going to get worse.

Explaining why he went, Adam said: "
I read a horrifying account of one volunteer who was able to resuscitate one young boy, only to be told later that he'd died. In the meantime, she had to deal with numerous parents begging for her help in locating their children. She was left to comfort mothers and fathers at the moment they found out their children were gone for good too.

"Refugees and volunteers are screaming out for help. I couldn't sit idly by any more. I had to make the time to answer their call and do whatever I can."

Adam BatesHere is a photo from a happier moment during his trip when a donated football made this little boy's day.

Adam has thanked friends back in Burton who have already donated - but now that he is home he intends to continue fundraising. Anything you can give at www.youcaring.com/AdamBates would be hugely appreciated.

You can read more about Adam's experiences here on the BBC website and here on the Burton Mail website.

Welcome Chris Knight

A new corporate patron joins the LTC family

Chris KnightWelcome to Chris Knight, a popular and entertaining speaker, as well as a leading light with Burton Amateur Stage Entertainers, who has joined us as a corporate patron.

After appearing in scores of amateur and semi-professional shows, Chris was asked in 2006 to give a talk to a Women's Institute group, and he is now in demand across the UK to give talks on subjects as diverse as the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, relocating an elderly aunt and the days of Music Hall.

Many thanks to The Mug Tug, at Barton Marina and Mini Marquee Hire who have kindly renewed their corporate patronages for another 12 months.

Read about all our corporate patrons by clicking their names on our website patrons page. If you are looking for the services and products they provide, please give them a call.

If you know any local businesses who would like to offer their support through an annual £25 donation, please ask them to get in touch through the website, using the contact us form.

We continue to be grateful for the ongoing support of our private patrons, whose names appear in all our show programmes.
