Women Innovating the Third Sector: A professional network for women inspiring social change.

October Spotlight: Lovern Gordon

Passion and ambition to create a social impact exudes from Lovern Gordon, Founder and President of the Love Life Now Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and funds for local area shelters. Lovern's unparalleled drive originates from her own experiences with violence, beginning as a child witnessing her father very openly abuse her mother, and culminating in an abusive relationship which landed her in a hospital emergency room and caused her to reach her breaking point. These experiences had a profound impact on Lovern, and when she was chosen as the winner of the Mrs. Ethnic World International Pageant, she chose to use this opportunity to speak out about her journey.

After a year of volunteering at a women's shelter and running bedding drives, Lovern decided she wanted to do more. She founded the Love Life Now Foundation and gave an added voice to domestic violence shelters, advocates and, most importantly, survivors throughout the New England area. Under the direction of Lovern, Love Life Now's tireless efforts hosting the annual White Ribbon Night Gala, Heel-A-Thon, and bedding drives have not only raised thousands of dollars for shelters, but have opened the doors to allow for much needed discussion about the "taboo" subject of domestic violence. Lovern's vision for the Love Life Now Foundation is to bridge the gap between the community and resources so that individuals experiencing abuse know where to turn for a helping hand.

Dear Nonprofit Community,
Women Innovating the Third Sector (WITS) is a new professional network for women inspiring social change through work in the nonprofit field. Women make up over half of the nonprofit workforce, and a much larger proportion of the field when we include volunteers, board members and donors. WITS seeks to provide resources and opportunities to allow women in the third sector to further our social impact, pursue career advancement and promote collaboration.
For an annual membership fee of $75, WITS members receive exclusive access to networking events, lectures, trainings and webinars. Members are also given access to the "Members Only" section of our website allowing them to share an online profile, visible only to other members, displaying the causes they believe in, career interests and contact information.
To learn more about WITS, please join us at our first informational and networking event on November 13, 2012, from 6:30-8:30pm location TBA (in Boston)! Or, visit our website:
