Implications of September 2019 Israeli Election
The law is to come fully into effect mid-2020, the interim intended to allow relevant agencies, including law enforcement, government ministries, and the NGO community, time to prepare for its implementation. In addition to securing passage of the law, TFHT also successfully pressed for significant funding for rehabilitation programs for those exiting prostitution.
Unfortunately, given the Knesset's dispersal the day after the law’s passage, and the fact that it has yet to return to routine activity, our ability and that of elected officials to monitor preparedness has been impacted, as has the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs readiness to allocate funds. (Thank you to all who answered our last call to action and sent emails to Ministry officials responsible for distributing funds already transferred for rehabilitation purposes.)
Elections are over, again, and while there remains uncertainty as to the leadership of the next government, we are preparing for significant work to be done in the new Knesset.
