DID YOU FINISH YOUR SUMMER READING?

School is BACK IN SESH! Did you finish your summer reading? Whether you did or didn't, shop at Virginia Highland Books, both in store and online, for all the books you'll need for the new school year!

AUGUST COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT!

This month our store is excited to partner with Hillside Atlanta! We are collecting used young adult/teen books and new and gently used backpacks, which will be shared with the residents of Hillside. Please bring all book and backpack donations to the store, where you'll find a labeled collection box.

Hillside is a facility in Morningside whose mission is to help children and families thrive by providing outstanding residential and community mental health services, specialized cutting edge behavioral treatment and education to children and their families. Programs focus on the strengths of residents, and encourage the growth and improvement they need to navigate through life.

IN-STORE AUTHOR VISIT, H.K. JACOBS

We are happy to host local author, H.K. Jacobs, to the store on August 29!  Jacobs grew up in a small town in Texas where she discovered a love of many things, including reading, horses, and being outside every second she could. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Waco, Texas, and received a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas, with a concentration in Global Health. Jacobs currently practices pediatric critical care medicine while balancing the many roles in her life- mother, physician, humanitarian, dreamer and now, author.

Jacobs' first novel, Wilde Type, features protagonist Dr. Alexandra Wilde, whose care for critically ill children has taken her across the world to her current assignment in Gaborone, Botswana. Her life is full of excitement, tragedy, and personal sacrifice with little room for anything or anyone else. She has always welcomed any adventure…except for the one wearing the face of billionaire mining heir and international playboy, Ian Devall. He is arrogant, charming, and utterly disenchanted. However, when circumstances thrust him into her life, she is captivated by a glimpse of his deeper character and drawn into a blazing romance. An ensuing path of self-discovery leads her to reopen the wounds of her past, and she must choose between the life she always imagined…or one she never dreamed was possible. Her second novel, Becoming Wilde, follows Dr. Wilde on her international humanitarian medical and personal journeys.

You can follow H.K. Jacobs on her Website, as well as on her Instagram and Facebook pages, and you are invited to meet her on August 29 from 4-7 pm in our store!

FEATURED ARTIST- JENNY HENLEY

We are fortunate to have several local artists exhibiting their work in our store. This issue's focused artist is Jenny Henley. Jenny is "an Atlanta based fine artist working with a methodology that embraces sculptural practices in a two-dimensional mixed-media framework. Typically, Henley uses socially recognizable imagery, appropriate for an audience familiar with contemporary notions of art; yet fused to a slightly nostalgic sensibility."

Jenny's website, and her Instagram and Facebook pages feature her many works; several of her typewriter series are displayed downstairs in our store.
Not only can you enjoy Jenny's work when visiting the store, all featured pieces are available for sale in the store. Prices are listed beneath the displayed pieces hanging in the store, or you can inquire at the check out counter for details.
