We are delighted to welcome the Virginia Highland Plein Air Painters to Virginia Highland Books! IN STORE EVENT: COWHIDE-AND-SEEK AUTHOR SHERI DILLARD

Join us on Saturday, March 5 at 9:45 am as we welcome children's author Sheri Dillard to the store! Sheri will read her book, Cowhide-and-Seek, sing story time songs, have a Q&A, and sign copies of her book. Bring your littles in for a fun morning with Sheri and her book!

In the story, Bessie hears the farmer counting his cows and thinks he’s starting a game of hide-and-seek. She hurries off to hide, determined to be the winner — but she’s the only one playing! When her “hiding spot” walks away, she follows it . . . right off the farm! Ready or not, here comes the farmer! Will Bessie find the perfect place to hide?

Sheri and her husband Mark raised their three sons right here in Virginia-Highland. She has been a preschool teacher for several years, and her most memorable story time was when she shared her debut picture book Cowhide-and-Seek with her preschoolers. Learn more about Sheri on her
website and Instagram.

IN STORE EVENT: UNIQUE EATS AND EATERIES OF ATLANTA AUTHOR AMANDA PLUMB

We are happy to welcome author Amanda Plumb to the store as she presents her new book Unique Eats and Eateries of Atlanta on March 6 (book signing and mingle 3:30 to 5:00 pm, Q&A at 5:00 pm). Due to the large amount of interest in this book, we will cap attendance at the meeting at 40 people based on Evite response time. Please reply to our Evite here.

While many of Atlanta’s world famous Southern restaurants boast the best fried chicken recipe, its burgeoning global identity has brought a breadth to its food scene like never before. You’ll find peppercorn-crusted kangaroo from Down Under all the way to street food from Malaysia, Mexico, and Venezuela.

In Unique Eats and Eateries of Atlanta you’ll discover the common ingredient uniting these diverse and innovative restaurants—the people who pour their heart and soul into the dishes they create. Curated in this guide are their stories of family, failure, and reinvention. Learn how a K-Pop star ended up running a BBQ joint in Georgia or how a college professor sold burritos out of a van to make ends meet. Take a peek behind the scenes at the making of fresh bagels that rival any in New York City or figure out why the Silver Skillet’s bathrooms are in the kitchen. Don’t miss the heartfelt stories of the Southern mainstays, some of which have been integral in launching the careers of artists, musicians, and Civil Rights heroes.

Local author and underground restaurant host, Amanda Plumb provides pro-tips on the meals, the menus, and the must-tries throughout the city. Let the “Gate City of the South” be your gateway to a most unique, southern and international culinary experience.

Amanda Plumb loves food almost as much as she loves her adopted hometown of Atlanta. For several years, along with fellow members of the Buford Highway Supper Club, she explored the international dining options along that congested thoroughfare. In 2017, she co-founded Chow Club Atlanta, a monthly underground restaurant showcasing the talents of local home cooks with international roots. Chow Club Atlanta has been featured in the Atlanta Magazine, the AJC, Creative Loafing, and other media. Discover more about Amanda on her website, as well as on social media at @UniqueEatsAtl @ChowClubAtl @amandaeplumb. You can find a copy of Unique Eats and Eateries of Atlanta both in our store and online.

Due to the large amount of interest in our book club thus far, we will cap each of the two meetings at 25 people based on Evite response time. Please reply to our Evite:
