IT'S MAY! SPRING IS HERE!
SCHOOL IS NEARLY DONE FOR THE YEAR!

Ode to May
Queen of months, supremely fair,
Cloth'd with garments rich and rare,
None in beauty can compare
With thee, sweet May.

Lovely month, thou bringest mirth,
Spreadest sweetness o;er the earth,
Causest Nature to give birth
To fruits and flowers.

Thou art lov'd by young and old.
Joys for each thou dost unfold;
Never shall our hearts grow cold
To thee, sweet May.

THIS WEEK IS TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated in the first full week of May, from May 1 through May 8 in 2022, and is when teachers get the extra credit they deserve. The big day is Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5, “a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.” Who doesn’t have a fond memory of a teacher who inspired us in some way?

Celebrate your teachers this week! You know what teachers LOVE? Books! Grab a VaHiBooks gift card for your teacher this week! We've also got journals, pen and pencil sets, and lots of other goodies sure to make your teachers smile.

CELEBRATE CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK!

Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries, bookstores, celebrating at home, and engaging with book creators both online and in person. The 2022 Children’s Book Week takes place, May 2-8, a dedicated week of celebration!

VaHiBooks has a huge selection of children's books! We also feature a weekly storytime, as well as additional kids' events throughout the year. Bring your kids in this week and enjoy some children's books.

IN STORE EVENT- GINNY HOGAN, AUTHOR OF I'M MORE DATEABLE THAN A PLATE OF REFRIED BEANS

Join us on May 3 (book signing 5:00, reading 7:00) as we welcome Ginny Hogan, Author of I'm More Dateable Than a Plate of Refried Beans. Through hilarious, absurd-yet-relatable short stories, quizzes, over-think pieces, and more, Hogan details every stage of a modern relationship—from meeting on an app to becoming official, to breaking up or getting married, to being single.

Find out how to successfully ignore any and all red flags. Take a quiz to see if that anxiety attack you're having means you're in a new relationship or if it's that cold brew you just chugged. Read chilling tales about the unfortunate few who actually did lose their phones (they didn't mean to ghost you, they promise). Begging to be shared with friends or sat next to your phone full of Tinder notifications, I'm More Dateable than a Plate Of Refried Beans is the ultimate humor book for anyone who is dating or has ever dated.

IN STORE EVENT: CRAIG LUCIE, AUTHOR OF HOLD YOU

Join us on May 20 at 10:30 am as we welcome Craig Lucie, author of Hold You. Have your kids said, "hold you!" when they really mean, "hold me?" Hold You is one father's nostalgic storytelling of his daughter's endearing phrase that was just too cute to correct. It is a reminder to us all to make time for each other.

Hold You, by author, Craig Lucie, is both a great picture book with wonderful illustrations for children's ages 0-5, as well as early and beginner readers from ages 5-7. Likewise, this endearing story is a great read for parents and grandparents to enjoy with their own children and grandchildren! Author Craig Lucie lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two children. Craig has over 20 years of experience as a broadcast journalist and reporter. Craig has won an EMMY for Best News Anchor and has been named Best On-Air Personality in the southeast. After almost two decades in the news business, Craig Lucie started his own company, Lucie, using his background to help other businesses, non-profits and individuals tell their own stories through compelling content creation.
