JUNE'S PICTURE

Let me paint June's picture—first I take some gold,
Fill the picture full of sun, all that it can hold.
Save some for the butterflies, darting all around,
And some more for buttercups here upon the ground.
Take a lot of baby-blue—this—to make the sky,
With a lot of downy white—soft clouds floating by.
Cover all the ground with green, hang it from the trees,
Sprinkle it with shiny white, neatly as you please;
So—a million daisies spring up everywhere,
Surely you can see now what is in the air!
Here's a thread of silver—that's a little brook
To hide in dainty places where only children look.
Next, comes something—guess—it grows
Among green hedges—it's the rose!
Brown for a bird to sing a song,
Brown for a road to walk along.
Then add some happy children to the fields and flowers and skies,
And so you have June's picture here before your eyes.

IT'S OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY, LET'S CELEBRATE!

GUESS WHAT???? It's our first anniversary! We opened the last week of June 2021 and boy, has it been an amazing year! As the new kid on the block this past year, we have loved being a part of the Virginia Highland community, and we are humbly grateful for all of your support.

Come celebrate our First Anniversary with us during weekend of June 18 and 19, and join us in enjoying special events and treats in the store! We look forward to another year of providing our community with great events and even greater books!

JUNE IS PRIDE MONTH!

Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ+ Americans. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBTQ+ Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ+ Americans.

Today, Pride celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally, and focuses on acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. Click here for a list of events celebrating Pride in Atlanta this month.

IN STORE EVENT: CRAIG LUCIE, AUTHOR OF HOLD YOU

Join us on June 17 at 10:30 am as we welcome Craig Lucie, author of Hold You. Have your kids said, "hold you!" when they really mean, "hold me?" Hold You is one father's nostalgic storytelling of his daughter's endearing phrase that was just too cute to correct. It is a reminder to us all to make time for each other. Hold You, by author, Craig Lucie, is both a great picture book with wonderful illustrations for children's ages 0-5, as well as early and beginner readers from ages 5-7. Likewise, this endearing story is a great read for parents and grandparents to enjoy with their own children and grandchildren! Author Craig Lucie lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two children. Craig has over 20 years of experience as a broadcast journalist and reporter. Craig has won an EMMY for Best News Anchor and has been named Best On-Air Personality in the southeast. After almost two decades in the news business, Craig Lucie started his own company, Lucie, using his background to help other businesses, non-profits and individuals tell their own stories through compelling content creation.

IN STORE EVENT: STORY TIME WITH LOCAL AUTHORS

Maggie and Rosalind Bunn, authors of All Aboard, Georgia and Beau’s Bayou Treasure, and Chris Negron, author of Dan Unmasked and The Last Super Chef, will join us in the store for a kids' story time at 1:30 pm on June 18. Don't miss this fun event!
