Message from the Toy Library Committee

Dear <<First Name>>,
Welcome to our May 2015 newsletter and to our new members, Chirag, Della, Khajahabibuddin, Zaki, Anna, Xinyu, Belinda and Tom.

It was our turn in April to use the display cabinet in Clayton Library. We're displaying our baby toys, puzzles, games, musical instruments, a music CD and cake tin.  A few curious little ones came up to the display and starting playing with our toys while the display was being assembled.  Hopefully more families will soon join our community.

Vote for a Toy!

Members can vote for which new toy to buy for the library. Introduced to have some fun and see what members really want!

TEETER POPPER is the winner!

POP-POP-POP... POP-POP-POP!
Kids find themselves teetering on the brink of perfect physical play. No special skills needed. In playful exploration, Teeter Popper improves core strength, stability, leg strength, balance, coordination and gross-motor skills. - Use on hard surfaces.
Teeter Popper won our last 'Vote for a Toy'. Unfortunately, Teeter Popper has sold out everywhere in Australia, so it will be added to our collection soon! We may purchase the second placed toy for the short term.

New Committee Members
Secretary

Megan Rive and Karen McDougal have kindly accepted to share the Secretary role! They found they couldn't commit 100% of the meetings so one will step in when the other can't.
Our committee is completely flexible like this. No parent has spare time, but we volunteer because we love it. This year we will be focusing on bringing together our local community.

Publicity & Communications

Our library is the best! We want to spread the word to local families. But we need help. No experience needed, just a willingness. You won't be alone in your role, all committee members help each other out and we can make decisions together. We also have a folder of what we have done in the past. Nominate your partner, grandparent, friend, neighbour or colleague. It's for the benefit of our community.

Bunnings BBQ - 26th July 2015

你會說普通話嗎?

Our local Maternal Child Health Nurse organise Mothers Group for new mums in the local area. We are giving talks in English but have been requested if we can present one in Mandarin. If you speak Mandarin, we would love for you to come speak with new mums about the benefits of the toy library. We will provide all the information to pass on.

We came second
We came second and received $100.  We lost to a footy club, so it was still good outcome considering our competitor.  Thank you Alok for organizing this.

If you have any other fundraising ideas , please feel free to share it with the rest of Oakleigh Toy Library Community.
Clayton Library Display
It was our turn in April to use the display cabinet in Clayton Library. We're displaying our baby toys, puzzles, games, musical instruments, a music CD and cake tin.  Few curious little ones came up to the display and starting playing with our toys while the display was being assembled.  Hopefully more families will join our community.

Members now Expecting

We are very excited for Lydia, Kerry and Fazli about their exciting news that they are expecting. We can't wait to see a photo of their new bubs.
If you're having a new baby, we would love to share the joy and welcome our newest member. We welcome you to forward your baby's photo for the next newsletter.

Past President
Alok

Alok has done a great job as president.
He has shared with all of us (not just the committee) his smiles, jokes and friendliness. Alok brought a practical and efficient approach to the committee and a welcomed father's perspective. He will still dedicate his time with the committee as fundraising coordinator, so we will not be losing a great asset to our community.

Past Secretary
Jasmine

Jasmine has been a capable, positive and easy going personality that really helped encourage and strengthen the committee, along with her insight and making sense of some of the chaos into where the library can improve. Her work and her invaluable input was very much appreciated, as well as coming along to extra meetings to discuss the website and other changes throughout 2014.

Past Memberships
Amanda

Amanda, a member since 2012 and a committee member for many of those years. Amanda has continually brought a bright and enthusiast energy to the committee with new ideas and development. Without her commitment including the new improvements to the Membership co-ordinator role, the library would fall over. One of Amanda's biggest achievements was co-ordinating Hack Day through REA and creating our existing Website and Online Rostering Sign ups. Thank you Amanda, we wish you the best in your adventures ahead, including your expecting bub!

Batteries

If you have borrowed a toy, and you have noticed it needs new batteries. We keep batteries stored within the plastic cabinet in the bottom draw. We encourage you to use the screwdriver and change them during session or ask a duty member to assist. Otherwise please ask the duty member to place the toy in the maintenance cupboard, and fill in the maintenance sheet in the duty folder as to why.

Monash Community Grant

As part of City of Monash Council community grants, we received $850 grant towards our funding and hall hire. We can't express how thankful we are of this grant, and for Alok applying for it.

Scooter Waiver Audit

We have just performed an member audit of our Scooter/Bicycle Waivers. We are missing 8 waivers from members. Look out for any messages on your Member Card, you may need to sign one. Waivers are found in the Red Box in the drawers.

Like all families, we also have our family values, below are some of them

Etiquette when borrowing:
  1. Please don’t arrive to return/borrow toys 10 minutes before closing time
When you are borrowing toys can you please make sure you allow enough time to select, count and check out the toys. This ensures that people on duty do not have to stay any longer than the required duty time. Members have the right to refuse borrowing 10 minutes before closing time.
  1. Return your borrowed toys to the correct shelf
Once the duty members count your toys, please put them back in the correct shelves.
  1. Check the batteries, if the toy needs new batteries, if time permits change it or put the toys in maintenance cupboard
Batteries and screwdriver are stored in the plastic cabinet in the bottom draw. We encourage you to use the screwdriver and change them during session or ask a duty member to assist. Otherwise please ask the duty member to place the toy in the maintenance cupboard, and fill in the maintenance sheet in the duty folder as to why.
  1. Finish your borrowing 10 minutes before closing time
We’re all volunteer and we all have kids. Time is very precious to us, so please respect each other time.
  1. Be your own sheriff
Rules, penalties, and fines are in place to ensure fairness. Thus, if you do the crime, you have to do the time. Well.. pay the fines in our case.
Some of the common broken rules : we can only borrow toys for 2 weeks, if you’re late in returning the toys, there’s a penalty fee of $1-$2 per session missed. Each missing piece cost $5 (if found, you get a refund).
All the fines and penalties are going back to the toy library community.
  1. Be nice and respectful
Abuse and rudeness are not tolerated. Only G-rated language please!!
