 Toy Library Newsletter

We are almost at the end of the year 2014. It has been a great year for our toy library. Thanks to all of your efforts, attending duty, remembering to renew your membership, sizzling sausages at Bunnings BBQ, keeping the toys clean, and puzzles glad wrapped. We can make our toy library even better; though if you do have suggestions send them via our email, or our Facebook page.

The committee has had a busy year giving our beloved Toy library a makeover for 2015. Here is a quick preview, as we will be presenting the full update and training at stocktake.
  • We are changing our name to Oakleigh Toy Library (so we only need one breath!)
  • We have a new logo, look out for Jack and Jillian
  • We are getting a new website in January, this website will enable you to
    • choose your rosters date each term
    • check availability of and book the party pack
    • report damaged toys
    • find information and forms
Please like our new Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OakleighToyLibrary/)

We have new opening hours in 2015
  • Wednesday: 7 - 9pm
  • Saturday: 9.30 - 11.00am
We are changing the memberships options
  • Gold: $70 (borrow 6 white & 6 yellow toys)
  • Silver: $60 (borrow 4 white and 4 yellow toys)
  • Bronze: $50 (borrow 2 white and 2 yellow toys)
We have revamped our policies and procedures
  • Refundable Levy to be applied

With ongoing problems with rostering and endeavouring to improve the reliability of our library, we are introducing a refundable levy. A $50 refundable levy will be applied to all new and renewal memberships. It will be refunded in full when member resigns, provided there are no fines owing. Paid into their nominated bank account.
  • Created a Duty Cheat Sheet

A new Duty Cheat Sheet will be available on top of the drawers for those needing to brush up on what to do during duty.
  • Simplifying procedures

We’ve had a hard look on how we do things. Over many extra meetings eating rum balls, we have attempted to streamline and highlight exactly what and how members especially duty members do things (with minimal fuss), such as what to do when toys are missing pieces etc.

See you at stocktake, but also look out for our newsletter or our facebook page, we will keep you up to date with the changes. We may have some teething problems as we roll out our changes, so please be patient and pass on your feedback. :)

Visit from Stephen Dimopoulos

Monash Deputy Mayor Stephen Dimopoulos visited the toy library today and presented us with a certificate of appreciation for helping make Monash a happy, healthy and caring community. Thanks to everyone who helped put on a lovely morning tea and to all our members for making the library such a great community organisation.

Return Toys

All toys need to be retuned by this coming Saturday 29th of November.
So borrowing has finished for the year until your stocktake session where we encourage you to take toys home over summer, and return them scrubbed and cleaned in the first 2 weeks of February 2015.

Party Pack Renewed

Gone shopping: Jillian has gone shopping and replaced our beloved roller coaster and slide! Our jumping castle was also replaced earlier this year!

Roster Duty

We want the library to run effectively for all members. To help this happen, all members in 2015 will get to choose their Duty Roster date and receive auto SMS reminders. We understand life is sometimes unexpected, so if you can't make your rostered duty we are asking members to organise a swap for their Roster Duty date, or offer another member to do their duty in the next term. In any case, notify the roster co-ordinator immediately!

Have you registered yourself for stocktake sessions?

We are running 4 stocktake sessions:
  • 29th November:  9am-12pm
  • 6th December: 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm
  • 7th December: 9am-12pm
It’s time to roll up your sleeves, get your elbows moving by counting, scrubbing and cleaning our toys. It is a good chance to mingle with other members too. It only takes 3 hours of your time. Caroline is co-ordinating stocktake, so please give her a big helping hand where possible.

This year at Stocktake we will also be including 20 minutes to cover new changes and duty training for members. Be on time to ensure you don't miss out!

Please bring some loose change, as we are raffling off our old Party Pack - Roller Coaster! $1 tickets or 3 for $2.
Don't forget our Annual Door Prize - $50 Chadstone voucher drawn out of the hat after the last stocktake session.

Fun with Sizzling Sausages

A big thanks to everyone who helped out with the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser - and a special mention for David Birch, who organised the whole thing again this year.

We need you

General Position – Website/Wordpress developer

We are looking for a website designer/developer to do the final touch ups on our new website.  Our website is built on wordpress, if you have any wordpress experience, Javascript or CSS in particular, we need your help to work with us in this exciting change of our new toy library webpage.

Missed your duty

If one of those curve balls occurs and you missed your duty, immediately phone the co-ordinator to organise a replacement duty, otherwise your membership will be placed on ‘Hold’, and you won’t be able to borrow toys. If a replacement duty isn’t organised promptly after the missed duty, then you will also be fined $20 from the newly introduced Levy (see above).
As always, we would love to hear from our members. Comments, feedback, ideas are welcome!

This is a community library, so our goal is to ensure that the library meets our member's needs.

Hope to see you at the Oakleigh Toy Library
