JOIN US FOR A GREEN GUIDES KICK-OFF

The Green Guides Network is beimg  formed in response to the need to engage people in every neighborhood.  To learn more, join us at the Oak Park Main Library, 834 Lake St., small meeting room for a Green Guides meet-up on one of the following dates:

10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28
OR
7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2

We’ll share our ideas and get your ideas on how to move the needle on sustainability goals:

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle 50% of our waste
  • Conserve water and keep it clean
  • Support our eco-systems with native plants
  • Meet more of our food needs from local, sustainable growers (including ourselves!)
  • Transition to renewable and efficient energy
Small changes can make a big impact when we act together!
 

The Green Guides Network is part of the PlanItGreen sustainability initiative.  Organizers include Seven Generations Ahead, Green Community Connections, Interfaith Green Network and more.  RSVP below to let us know you’re coming or that you want to be kept in the loop.

Bring your 18 to 35-month-old to learn about rocks by listening to a story, participating in a hands on experience, and taking a short walk in the conservatory. Because of the popularity of this free event, you must register in advance here or call 708-725-2400.

Saturday, January 16, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Repair Cafe, at Oak Park Senior Center, 414 S. Oak Park Ave., in Oak Park. Here you will find the tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. You'll also find repair specialists such as seamstresses, electricians, carpenters, and general fix-it folks. More here.

 


Thursday, January 21, 1 to 4 p.m., A Stroll in the Snow, beginning at Thatcher Woods Pavilion, 8030 Chicago Ave., in River Forest. Learn about plants and animals in winter. Try snow painting. All ages welcome. Snowshoes recommended for ages 6 and up. Learn more here.
