BB3 leads "The Craftsman Jam Session" in NYC

I hope everyone is staying warm and safe as Winter truly barrels towards us all here on the East Coast, while we’re all still grappling with the pandemic, even as the light at the end of the tunnel (in the form of the vaccine!) is starting to come into view…

Most of you know by now I’ve been hustling all around NYC the past year, trying to keep our Jazz Community and live music afloat while still adhering to Covid protocols. Lately that’s equated to lots of outdoor shows with igloos and space heaters…you’d be amazed at the fortitude of NYC audiences, who still show up and show out for Jazz, even in a blizzard! Here’s where you can catch me regularly if you happen to be in NY:

*Sundays 7-10pm: “The Craftsman” - Morningside Heights, NYC

*Tuesdays & Fridays 7-9pm: “Rue B” - Alphabet City, NYC (Lower East Side)

*Saturday, March 6th 730-930pm: “The Roxy Hotel” - Tribeca, NYC (1-NIGHT ONLY!)

NYC is officially bringing back “Indoor Dining” at 25% capacity on Valentine’s Day, and it’s my earnest hope that as the vaccine continues to disseminate through the ranks of New Yorkers, we can take this important step and move forward on a path to normalcy again soon! This will allow many venues in the city to once again (safely!) host shows, and it will get more cats working again, which is of the utmost need at this point in time. I can’t wait to be back in packed clubs, feeding off of YOUR energy again - I miss real audiences!

“Emmet’s Place” album release concert: “Little Angel”

Emmet Cohen Trio feat. Tivon Pennicott & Benny Benack III | Little Angel

Special shoutout to my brother-in-music Emmet Cohen, who released his newest album “Future Stride” on Mack Avenue Records this week! I had the pleasure of celebrating the occasion on his Monday night show “Emmet’s Place” alongside his trio and Tivon Pennicott - here’s Emmet’s beautiful and soulful, groove-laden original composition “Little Angel” - I even bust out the flugelhorn for this one!

In other news, the 2020 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocalist Competition (of which I’m a finalist!) has been postponed again until mid-Summer 2021. They’re waiting for a safe time for us to join together in person - it will happen, revised date TBA soon!

I am also teaching a number of “Virtual Masterclasses” with various college Jazz programs this semester, and also am continuing to put the finishing touches on “BB3’s Bebop Bonanza!” - my etude book coming out this year. On top of maintaining a private studio of more students than I’ve ever had before, education has never been a larger part of my music, and I’m enjoying it thoroughly! Jazz will forever be an aural tradition reliant on it’s masters to pass down, and I had many great mentors show me the “keys to the kingdom” as a young student, so I’m merely paying it forward in kind!

Stay safe, stay warm, and be well. Stay tuned for all things BB3, farewell for now my friends!
