Kierstin Collins is the Manager of Children and Adolescent Services, which includes individual, play, family therapies available to the community as a whole. In addition, she oversees substance specific youth programming including Kids Camp for young children impacted by addiction and Mindful Choices for teens beginning to use.
As adults we often protect ourselves from the experience of shame and guilt by saying “They never saw me [drink or use drugs], so they weren’t affected”, but what we now know is that witnessing the act of substance use is not necessary for children to be impacted or for the cycle of addiction is perpetuated. Kierstin will be sharing the how young children are impacted by adults’ substance use within the family system, how the impact is different based on early development, and the unique approach to preventing the cycle of addiction for the next generation.
This will be a presentation you don't want to miss!
Our Meetings are held at The Council on Recovery as they graciously provide us with space!!
