Local Buying Program sets new records 
The Local Buying Program (LBP) continues to provide opportunities for small businesses in the Central Highlands, Isaac and Mackay local government regions to competitively supply goods and services to BMA and BMC.

The progress of the LBP can be measured by looking at the number of businesses registering to participate, the number of work opportunities made available to businesses, and the amount of approved spend going back into the regions.

The LBP has delivered record approved spend of $11.2 M in the July - September Quarter. 

From the LBP's inception in 2012 to 30 September, 2016 the LBP has delivered:
  • over $90M in total approved spend to local business
  • over 10,000 work opportunities

Local Buying Foundation update 
As a direct result of the record spend recorded in the Local Buying Program (LBP) in the July - September Quarter the Local Buying Foundation (LBF) has received record funding for the same quarter, this brings the total funds received since inception in 2012 to $1,098,000.  These funds will be used by the LBF to support local initiatives that reflect the Foundations aim of building sustainable business communities for the future. 

Projects that were approved from funding in Round 3 in September 2016:  Submissions for the 4th and final funding round for 2016 will close on Friday 25 November.  The best place for information on funding applications and the aims of the Local Buying Foundation is the LBF's website which was launched earlier this year www.localbuyingfoundation.com.au.

CH Investing in our Future Conference well attended
Both the Local Buying Foundation and BMA were proud sponsors of this biannual conference.  Attendees were provided updates on current and future initiatives; development and investment opportunities; and projects, products and services that will support the region’s continued growth.

Business Networking in Dysart 
The Local Buying Foundation invites BMA and local businesses to attend their annual networking event in Dysart on Thursday 8 December, 2016 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm at the Country Roads Motor Inn.

There will be a number of presentations and opportunities for small businesses to be recognised for their achievements in the Local Buying Program in 2016  and the opportunity to speak with other businesses, industry and BMA.  There is no cost to attend and light refreshments will be served.

Bowen Basin Business Development Initiative 
The Bowen Basin Business Development Initiative (BBBDI)  aims to support business communities within the Bowen Basin to remain resilient and sustainable through the effective co-ordination of business development activities.

A critical component of the BBBDI's strategy is the continued mapping of business development activities across the Bowen Basin to identify duplication and clashes and so maximise resources and opportunities for businesses across the region.  All Business Development stakeholders are invited to engage with the BBBDI and add their events to its calendar of events for the remainder of 2016 and to begin mapping events for 2017.

Any Business Development Stakeholders who are interested in participating in the development of the 2017-2018 strategy or who would like to learn more about the BBBDI are encouraged to visit the website bbbdi.com.au or email info@bbbdi.com.au
