Few musicians have crossed cultural boundaries the way Michael Messer has.

Recognised as one of the World’s foremost blues slide guitar players, his band Mitra combines his gritty and authentic blues with two of India’s finest classical musicians.
  • Manish Pingle (Indian Slide Guitar - Mohan Veena)

The result is an intoxicating fusion where blues, jazz and world music meet in a union that is as unique as it is beautiful.

The Milk Men
Available: Festivals 2022 and touring

The Milk Men is a band that presents the cream of British R’n’B talent and pedigree.

Bringing together members of the legendary Pirates, and British Blues Award-nominated The Mustangs, The Milk Men have been tearing up venues and festivals all over the UK with their dynamic, white hot versions of classic blues tunes, alongside unforgettable foot-stomping originals.

The Milk Men’s sound has been called ‘ZZ/DC Feelgood” by some critics, who have lavished praise on the band’s dynamic live show and original songs. But the band draws its influences from all corners of the blues world, from early Rod Stewart , through classic Rolling Stones and Steely Dan, to the heavier blues leanings of ZZ Top and AC/DC.

Before Breakfast

Available: November/December 2021, Spring 2022 and UK Festivals 2022

“Alt-folk with some deeply personal lyricism, words that touch on personal independence, feminism, and more.” – CLASH

“Easily one of the best bands to ever come out of Sheffield, ‘Buddleia’ is a diamond amongst a back catalogue of other precious gems” – BBC Introducing Sheffield

Before Breakfast explore feminist issues through the telling of personal stories – fusing their classical knowledge and rich arrangements with raw expression. Gina and Lucy’s music has always been beautiful, though is often layered with feminine discomfort. An uneasy web of harmonies and relentless piano, intricate cello and expressively haunting vocals.

“Before Breakfast take acappella, anchor it with an acoustic piano, and smash it… to pieces!” Fresh On The Net

Jesse Terry

Whatever magic potion the troubadours in Laurel Canyon were sipping on in 1971, Jesse Terry has managed to track it down and take a deep gulp.

Now on his seventh album, When We Wander, Terry performs his beautifully crafted songs to around 150 audiences a year from Bonnaroo to the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the 30A Song-writers Festival to Americana Fest.

Mim Grey
Touring: through 21-22

Mim Grey is a special talent. Possessing the most beautiful voice to come out of the UK in a very long time, Mim released her long-awaited and highly accomplished debut album, ‘Grey Matters’ in April 2010. The album evokes the sounds of James Taylor and Joni Mitchell but conjures up a life lived through high-heeled boots, blue jeans, curling tongs, late nights and love lost and found.

Mim has performed with music luminaries Paul McCartney, Dave Stewart, Michael Ball and ABC and recorded with Kylie Minogue and Morcheeba. Mim has also had a top ten single with Mantronix and a club hit with Lee Cabrera. Her cover version of ‘What a Difference A Day Makes’ spearheaded a Thomas Cook Christmas ad campaign.

Mim performs solo, as a duo or with her full band and will be touring throughout 2021 and 2022.
'A debut of rare depth& richness." DAILY EXPRESS

Michael Chapman: 1941 - 2021
The Fully Qualified Survivor on stage at Beverley Folk Festival

We received the very sad news that Michael Chapman
passed away at home in Northumberland from natural causes last Friday at the age of 80.

Michael was a mainstay of our STRADA Music roster, having toured relentlessly for over 50 years from his first public appearance on the Cornish Folk Club circuit in 1966, and until Corona Virus interrupted everything, he showed no intention of slowing down.
In fact Michael was planning a few gigs this autumn and was aiming to get back on the road next year. In addition he was writing and recording material for a new double album to add to the 50 plus recordings he released in his lifetime.

We would like to thank all the promoters and organisers who have supported Michael throughout his long career on the road, as well as the loyal audiences that always turned out to see him play.

Michael was variously described as a mesmerising, innovative guitarist, a brilliant songwriter writer and an example of How to make a guitar sound like an entire orchestra.[Bob Harris]. He's also credited with having accidentally invented Americana way back in the 1970's, and has been cited by a wide list of A-List musical celebrities, including Elton John, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, Show of Hands, Lucinda Williams, Meg Baird, Hiss Golden Messenger, Bridget St John and William Tyler to name but a few.

Tributes have been flooding in on his website and social media pages and they are all very much appreciated by his widow Andru Chapman.
You can read his obituary on The Guardian Website here

Michael was always generous but accurate with his criticism. He could tell immediately if someone had a special talent and would often take them under his wing and work with them to help raise their profile. Many younger artists owe a great deal to Michael Chapman.

Michael will be missed by us all at Strada Music.
RIP Michael Chapman. 24 January 1941 - 10 September 2021
