Here I Am, Lord, Send Me
by Dan Doyle

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?
And ‘Who will go for us? And I said, ‘Here I am, Lord, send me.’ Isaiah 6:8

In this very powerful and moving passage, we are told of Isaiah’s vision when the Lord appeared to him to send him forth with a message to the people. It is rich with heavenly imagery and earthly portent. As Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:17, “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” With that in mind, let us bring this scripture passage down from the heavens to where we all live our daily lives.

Every day God is sending us, like Isaiah, to go into the world of our daily lives to proclaim his message to those we live within this world: our families, our friends, our co-workers and, yes, even the strangers we meet. We are his Isaiah in this world, at this time, in this place. Like Isaiah, God calls us today, and every day of our lives, to call ourselves and others to conversion, to challenge ourselves and others to turn away from those things that destroy us, both here and in eternity. We are commissioned every day, to bring ourselves and others back to God and his goodness. We are to do this through our own words and actions.

Like Isaiah, we too may very well be met with the refusal and even the rejection of others. Unlike Isaiah, we have come to know God intimately, in a human way, in Jesus. We are no longer commissioned to get people to convert out of fear and the intimidation of a wrathful God. Our efforts in this challenge today are to always to be modelled on the life of Christ among us. We are called to bring others, and ourselves to conversion through our compassion and understanding. We must be moved by mercy and love for ourselves and others, just as Jesus was. We must be willing to lead lives that are clearly rooted in the life of Jesus. We are not to condemn those who refuse and reject us but to challenge and guide them through our freely-given forgiveness and through the obvious joy we have because of our living faith in Christ Jesus.

The mission has not changed. But with the Incarnation, our faith became mature. We no longer respond, like children, out of an awe-full fear of God, but as adults now, we respond out of awe for his unconditional love, which he expressed to us in Jesus. Now we are to love as Jesus loves. We are to address and to relate to others as adults who possess a free will and a capable intellect. We are to help bring others to that happy conversion more through how we live our lives than by what we say with our words. And we are never sent alone. God is always with us in his Holy Spirit.

Let us all say, then, “Here I am, Lord, send me.”

Weekly Prayer Meetings - Wednesday evenings

Weekly prayer meetings have resumed each Wednesday evening
from 7:30-8:30pm for the next 9 weeks via Zoom.
The program will follow the Conference's 10 days of prayer program but run over 10 weeks.  The topic is "Seeking Revival" and Week 1 was on the 3 February, Week 2 will be on Wednesday 10 February. The meetings will initially be run online via Zoom given the ease of access.
Please contact Marvin Malcolm if you need assistance with the technology to join.

Like regular weeks of prayer, there is an associated reading that will be used to guide the program and is attached.  I'm not sure the best way to distribute it, however, they is a correspondng site where all the materials, in multiple languages, can be found.

Putting God first can be difficult. What can we learn from Hannah that will help us put God first in our lives today?

Hannah experienced a wonderful miracle in her life: God answered her prayer and gave her a son. She must have been so happy to discover she was pregnant! A few months earlier, she had entered the temple in Jerusalem and opened her heart to God, even promising that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate him to God’s service. Now that she was a mother, her life was so different! She named her son Samuel, which means “heard by God”.
We can imagine Hannah sitting with little Samuel and teaching him about God through the telling and retelling of the old stories. Samuel was a miracle and she loved him with all her heart. But the time soon came when she had to take Samuel to the temple to serve the Lord, as she had promised. Although God had given her many other children, Samuel was her first. Giving him up to the Lord still as a child must have been very difficult.
Putting God first is often difficult. But here are Hannah’s own words, as recorded in 1 Samuel 2:1, 2: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. There is no-one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”
Samuel would become one of the greatest prophets in the history of the people of Israel. He was a man of God who anointed King Saul and even King David himself. None of this would have happened if his mother had refused to put God first.
If you are a parent, have you ever wondered what impact putting God first will have on your children? It is impossible to predict the kind of impact children will have on the world when they grow up witnessing their parents putting God first. Hannah put God first. Her example compels us to do the same. As the deacons collect the tithe and offerings, we are challenged to put God first.

Our heavenly Father, help us to seek You and Your kingdom first.
Please accept our worship this morning.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Our offering today will be for Local Church Outreach. We encourage you to hold your tithes and offerings until 13 February (next Sabbath) to give in person on our first Sabbath back together, a day of celebration and thanksgiving.
Next week's offering will be for
AUC: Disaster & Famine Relief

By supporting the Disaster and Famine Relief Offering,
you will enable ADRA to be ready to respond immediately

Creative Activities is Back!
So blessed to be able to start back carefully at Creative Activities on Wednesday!
It was great to see so many familiar faces, even if they were behind masks. Ever so grateful to our fabulous team of volunteers (including the amazing Leone Rocke who celebrated her 97th birthday at the end of January who gave us the excuse to eat cake!)
who went the extra mile today to keep our Creative Activities family safe.

And a big, cheery Happy Birthday, Leone!

Castle Hill Kids (0-9)
Hey, Kids! Isn’t it awesome that we have a God who loves us so much and who we can trust? And even if we have done something wrong, God still loves us and will take us back. Why don’t you talk to God right now, thank Him for His amazing love, ask Him to lead you and guide you to be the best you can be. Enjoy a sand art with Tiani, learn about bees with Ranger Hardy, Daniel teaches us how to make a bird feeder, and Katharine sings a special song.

We are planning a picnic/fish & chips lunch at Berowra Waters on
Tuesday 23 February at 12 o’clock.
It's a lovely drive down to Berowra Waters, and parking is easy there. You can bring your own lunch, or buy it at the cafe near our picnic spot. Their takeaway fish & chips are excellent, and they also have vegetarian burgers.

Bring your chairs and all your stories to share since we last caught up.

At the moment we are feeling a little more comfortable being outdoors. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we can have a fun time together.

Church is going back on 13 February!
Church will be different but the best part is we will be able to see each other and not watch church on a screen!

Pablo advises there will be some differences:
- the 2 square metre rule will apply
- there will be no congregational singing
- we will need to wear masks.

Church will meet in the church hall, the old church and main the church. The retirees are able to meet in the church and if we can give him approximate numbers of retirees planning on coming back to Church, he will make sure seats will be reserved in the main church.

If you can let us know if you are thinking of coming back to church, we can pass the numbers onto Pablo.

Church will still be live-streamed if you feel more comfortable with this.
