Presidents Message
Hello to all,

The CGPA Board and its committees have been busy on several fronts. We are working towards enhancing the value of membership:
  • Sunday Night Seminars
  • Mentorship Program
  • Annual CGPA conference Oct 19-21 in Toronto
We are also improving our marketing strategies to increase the size of membership and ensuring that CGPA is sustainable.

The CGPA Board has approved the following message to describe who we are and why we do what we do:

CGPA: Group Therapy, Group Training, Group Facilitation

We are a multi-disciplinary Canadian association of professionals and students who believe in change through connection, belonging and group process. We offer educational opportunities including teleconference seminars, mentorship, local and national workshops and our premier event the CGPA Annual Conference. Group therapists, group educators and group facilitators all appreciate the organization's acceptance of diversity and openness to new ideas.

Please let me know what you think about our new “Value Proposition” above?

Best Regards,

Mentorship Program, Samantha Surkis

Group psychotherapy by nature recognizes the power inherent in interpersonal connection. As such the Mentorship Subcommittee invites you to consider participating in our exciting new initiative. Do you have years of experience working with groups? Do you have expertise on a particular population? Have you amassed experiences that you would have liked to know about when you were just getting started? Think about becoming a mentor...

Are you a new member? Are you attempting to further develop in your career as a group practitioner? Do you work in an environment where you are isolated from like minded professionals? Think about becoming a mentee...

We are accepting applications for a year long pilot run.
  • The goal would be to connect 1x/month as a mentor/mentee pair
  • The purpose of connection can evolve organically to include: the sharing of resources, support, discussions about career development, and/or the evolution of the identity as a group therapist. Please note, this is not a clinical supervisory relationship.
  • Additionally we are asking that you be available every three months to liaise by phone/email with the mentorship subcommittee about strengths and room for improvement in the program.
Canadian Group Psychotherapy Foundation
Exciting news!

The Canadian Group Psychotherapy Foundation is creating an award in honour of Dr. Salvendy. The goal is to have an endowment of at least $10,000.00.  Dr. Eric Jackman has generously offered a challenge grant in which he will match contributions to reach the goal.
